Never been to Vegas, and I don't gamble. Any good food/bar spots worth just hanging out in and people watch?

I'm staying at the Mandalay Bay, yep, that one. I will be in meetings all day except Sunday afternoon when I arrive, and some of Monday. Then I'm out on Thursday after more work. So I've got some evenings to myself.

There are a billion options out there, and I have no idea on how to narrow them down. So I'm not wasting my time, I'm asking you to help narrow them for me.

I stayed there too, back in January, all expenses paid by one of my manufacture reps. I am like you, I don't gamble, but did enjoy walking around the strip and Fremont street (lots of colorful characters there).

There is a steak place at Mandalay Bay on the ground floor that has excellent food, but expensive IMO (but I am sure everything in vegas is). I didn't get a chance to go to the Hofbrauhaus, but really wanted to.

Find tickets to a Cirque show one night. Most of them are really good.

Ri-Rah Irish pub there in the Bay is good if you are a recluse like me.

Second this, eat there every time I go, great breakfast.

I was there during the shooting, so there recently. If you're looking for a sports bar, there's one in the Luxor that's pretty good, Public House with lots of TV's.

I would wonder the strip aimlessly, it is more fun than you might think. Also agree with the Irish pub. Another fun place if you are with others is Dicks last Resort in Excaliber not far from where you will be. They will treat you like you are here in GCC.

Watch street performers between Bellagio water park and Fremont street. Plenty of hookers and just plain odd people to watch. Grab some food on the strip with outside seating. Most of the people in costumes are from South America, same with the short fat women flipping hooker cards.

The Steak House at circus circus is amazing. Very old school vegas. The little restaurant between mandalay and Delano has a surprisingly good breakfast.

I think Fremont street is on the other end of the strip. Is that walking distance or am I insane? It looks like it would one helluva long ass walk. We have a convention going on at the Convention center so I'll be on that end for a day or two.

Good tips, thanks.

I wouldn't walk, too long. There should be a monorail to get you from MB to the convention center, but even from there is like 4+ miles to Fremont Street, so F-that.

NO SHIT? *runs off to google like a kid*

Edit: Nope, MGM goes to the Convention Center, Mandalays only connects three properties.

The Cirque O show at the Bellagio was amazing. You can waste an entire day just wandering through the nicer casinos - which have gardens or other interesting displays. Bunch of decent places to eat in that street that runs behind the lync to the hiroller - the flatbread pizza place has an awesome eggs benedict flatbread.

Fremont street is not on the strip, it is in down town or old Vegas. It is cool to visit but not walk to.

Yep. But there are several shuttle busses that go to and from Fremont. The area between the Strip and Fremont is the downtown chapter of the VFW...

If I had "extra" time whilst in Vegas I would visit Hoover Dam (again).

Other than hookers, and skeezy people in general, anything I need to avoid or be wary of?

I don't want to walk into the Blue Oyster Bar.

Seemed plenty safe on the strip all night, just don't do like my wife did and say good morning to the bums begging for cash unless you want someone to start yelling/spitting

Tacos EL Gordo at north end of the strip.

I was there for SEMA last month and I really enjoyed the Rolling Stones Experience. Might still be there?

Clubs East and South of Paradise Blvd. and ~ Tropicana. Starts getting sketchy.

That said, the restraunts in the strip malss along Paradise between there and the convention center are really good.

Marrakesh, if you have an expense account and some clients to impress, is an awesome fun experience.

I did this a couple years ago, used the bus to go everywhere for 3 days including to and from the airport. It was great except coming back from Fremont street some really drunk guy puked on the upper deck.

I took the double decker bus tour. Was pretty cool to get some history and you can hop off the bus and pick up another one.
