I tried to go when I was in South Africa last year, but they were protesting at the water front the only day I had free over the firing of the finance minister.

Tell that to the captain of the Dana Point sport fishing boat. Back in May we went on a private charter out of Dana Point on a small boat with no bathroom. Jump in the water or pee over the side. Well in the warm afternoon I said I'm jumping in. Captain says no this is where the great white warning is , here is a refresher
https://www.ocregister.com/2017/05/1...a-calm-manner/
We were about 1000 yards from where that took place 2 weeks earlier. I looked at the captain and said bye and jumped in. When I got back in the boat he just gave me the "you dumb asshole look". Not exactly chicken shit. I know cool story.

How did the shark end up in the cage? @Kurtuleas went out of the bay area last year, iirc.

I've considered doing it, but do enough recreational diving that I would rather stick with knowing that they are there, but not seeing them.

There's an opening on the sides big enough for diver's to get out in an emergency, but sometimes sharks end up smashing through or just going through if they're small enough.

I've seen similar footage shot from someone in a cage where a White charged the cage and broke through the opening partially and got wedged in there.

Seen a fair number of sharks, that I presume were well fed as they ignored us. Barracudas, on the other hand, greatly concern me, they appear as a silver flash and disappear as quickly.

Keep in mind that 80% of my Facebook posts are complete bullshit.

I was drinking beers by my pool and hammered when I checked into the Farallons and said I was shark diving. Posted a picture of a dude in a shark cage with a mask on so you couldn't tell it was me or not. LOL!

I've dove with plenty of smaller sharks (6' and under) never seen a white and i'm happy with that, as i said.

I hate fawkin Sea Lions. They all need to die. Or at least go back to the SEA where they belong. I have not caught a fish off my dock for 3 months because of those bastards. I would shoot them if there was not a $40,000 fine since they are protected.

I have researched a lot about it. 10-15 years ago they would NEVER come this far up into the delta. You would see seals and otters, but never sea lions.

At first I thought it's just because their numbers have grown, but it's the toxic algae that is messing with their heads. They eat it, or eat fish that ate it, and their behavior become erratic and they lose their sense of direction.

I have read that they only get 10' long, but there is one in Disco that is nearly as long as my catamaran which is 14'

Interesting, i thought that maybe it was because of you yuppies and your usedtonotbewaterfront homes demanding more water to counteract the tidal surge and accompanying odors; not good for property values

This. They are completely overpopulated. It's like they are the mountain lions of the water and nobody is allowed to hunt them, although that's part of nature's balance. People have always hunted otters, seals, and sea lions, keeping the populations down and at a healthy level. Sure, the large commercial fishing boats aren't helping the fish stocks, but I can assure you that the massive amounts of marine mammals are making a huge dent in the fish populations as well. They need to thin those suckers out by half.

If it's in the 10-14' range, it's more likely to be an elephant seal. Those things get really big, up into that range.

...and they stink. There's a big colony near San Simeon and you'll always see a bunch of people trying to get close, then the smell hits 'em.

I've been out there, and let's just say that if I had a time machine, I would have shot back to the mid-1800's, and had enough seal skin to outfit the entire Pirate 4x4 community in new jackets and boots.

And yeah, they do stink. They smell that way because they are crapping out the leftovers of legitimate fishermen who catch and spend tons of effort dragging salmon up to the surface from hundreds of feet down, only to be cherry picked and stolen right next to the boat by those sea rats. Jerks.
