SF-97 for military surplus vehicle

So last weekend I bought a pretty nice military blazer from a guy who bought it from a government liquidation auction 10 years ago. He never touched the blazer after he bought it, so naturally he never bothered with titling it either. He was able to provide me with his original bill of sale from government liquidation and wrote me a bill of sale, but he either lost or never bothered paying the 60 bucks to get the SF-97 to title it.

Obviously I would like to get a title for it, so I contacted government liquidation and they told me that they stopped issuing SF-97s 2 years ago and could only give me a notarized bill of sale. I read on iron planet that I could possibly get a certified copy of the SF-97 so I contacted the Defense Logistics Agency's Disposition division that handles the sale of government assets but have not heard anything back from them yet.

Long story short, anyone know if it is possible to get a replacement SF-97 or am I just screwed? If all else fails I figured I would just apply for a bonded title, but would rather not if I don't have to.

Texas. I has read something about registering in FL or MI so I guess I need to see what their requirements are for out of state if I have to go that route.

What year is it? Georgia doesn't require titles on 30+ year old vehicles. I would think you would need a Georgia ID though. Also Vermont I believe is very easy to register and get a title through, without requiring residency.

It's an 85 model. Based on what I was just reading about Vermont requirements I believe I would have to be a resident there also.

No idea what a bonded title is but on something that far out of the system in ca I would load it up on a trailer, go get a vin clarification at the highway patrol and head to the DMV. Fill out a statement of facts saying it was on some property you bought ten years ago and your just getting around to working on it.

So I remembered I had a login still for steel soldiers. I posted on there and got a pm from a guy who says he can get me a clear Tennessee title through his employer for $300. I'm thinking my only option besides the bonded title is going to be an avenue like this, unless I can pick up a junked blazer with title for next to nothing just for the vin

You do not have to be a Vermont resident to do the Vermont title trick.

Get the bonded title and don't worry about a grey title.
