I wish. Too bad it's in CA. I could see a nightmare in trying to develop it.

Not a horrible deal for ca. Would be cool if it has water and you could work from home or just not work. Also you could just pretend your 300ac was 3000 because there is no one out there to care....... unless you get shot by blm

Did you ever go to any of the Carvers, NV trips with TK? There's a bunch of places like that up in those mountains. We asked around and found the bar owner to open up for us.

You got what you got. Limited water if at all. Your best bet is to turn it into a tourist bar/hotel/rockhound attraction.

I’m pretty sure I’ve been there, certainly know the area. Might be lucky and find some hot springs on the land.

P.S. Bishop is more NEVADA than California. The border is about 6 miles out of town.

This place is on the West side of Death Valley.

Should be cool minerals on the property

Exactly, and I can clearly see you and your ilk cockblocking any development because there is a rare, silver ant, or milk vetch or burrowing gopher on site.

Here's a little history on the mine. Cerro Gordo Mines

It looks like is was last mined in 1938. They say it's a patented claim and show a group of claims in the pictures. At under a million I'm guessing it's either played out or hasn't been drilled/ doesn't have any proven reserves. I wonder how big of environmental disaster it could be since it's in Comifornia. It sounded like smelting took place in the area but it's a little unclear if it took place on the property for sale or down the hill. The lack of water rights would make mining an issue but it might be possible.

It is an awesome piece of property, too bad I don't have an extra million sitting around to buy it.

Plus it's buried in under a shit ton of snow for roughly 6 months out of the year making access difficult to impossible.

From what I recall, there's water available from one of the old mine shafts - sounds like it would be grotty, but meets water standards and doesn't taste too bad. They went down to the natural flooded level (like 800 ft) and installed a pump. Problem is, the pump is broke last I heard and there's no good way to fix it - they used to use the main hoist for access but there's issues with that being safe for use. My guess is that you could make it safe enough to work without too much trouble if you use the 'I'm going to make it work well enough that I feel safe' and ignore MHSA standards - I expect everyone is going with the 'must meet offical standards to be legal' for liability reasons, and of course then it's horridly expensive. Wouldn't think fixing the water system would be too hard outside of that.

Got some neat old building and lots of history there, but it's really the top of a mountain - not going to much developing. It's also more or less in the middle of nowhere. They have an old boarding house (IIRC) fixed up as a something like a period hotel, and IIRC they used to rent it out. Not sure why they stopped.

Lots of potential but it's not a place that will make anyone rich IMHO. I very much hope the right type of folks get it - could be a very neat place, or it could get trashed real quick depending on what they want to do. I'd buy it if I had a spare million, but sadly I don't....

No real snow issues. It's in the Inyos, not Sierras, so while it's cold & windy there' not that much moisture. Inches of snow, maybe a foot but it'll also melt off and on. I was up there in Dec and never needed 2wd to get to town, and met some folks who came up the back way (with more drifts) in jeeps without issue. I think at least part of it is county road and plowed/maintained to get up there. Wouldn't there'd be more than a few days here and there you wouldn't be able to get in with 4wd at the worst.

You could buy it and then as a new mayor of the town declare it a gun sanctuary city and refuse to cooperate with california government on gun registration.

If it is still incorporated, as owner/Chief of Police, you get to do the shooting.

This and maybe "try your had at mining", it is close enough to Lone Pine to get site seers.

Not sure what a shit ton of snow is for someone in SoCal, but 9" ave. rainfall between Nov-March isn't going to produce a lot of accumulated snow.

I think there's still decent reserves, but with all the regs and offshore competition it's not worth mining. They were down 1000+ ft.

No problem. Just need 150 people to "incorporate" and then you can issue your own building permits and have your own police force.
