The license software is Flexlm.

It's serving licenses for Abaqus, Nastran, ProE, Ideas (NX), FeSafe, and Hyperworks. There are two licenses that are likely difficult to get (Ideas and FeSafe). Probably doable, just going to be a lot of work. Ideas is now NX (Siemens) and FeSafe was bought by Dassaut and is no longer a stand alone package.

The guy that set the machine up originally said he's available to help so we're conferencing this evening. Hopefully his memory is better than mine.

and you've already changed the binding order right?

it's been a while and I don't actually have an XP machine here, but I'm fairly sure that the key you're looking for is
HKLM/system/current/services/lanmanager/linkage

I might be off on part of those, but that's the ballpark. You should be able to set the priority for windows to load TCP/IP and such there, which would force windows to initialize the wireless card before the wired adapter.

I've dealt with Flexlm a ton in the past. Here's what you do.

Fuck all this XP wireless nic bullshit.

1. Stand up a supported operating system. Server 2016, Windows 10, etc.
2. User Hyper-V that comes with Windows. Or download VMWare Player.
3. Create new VM with operating system of choice. (not XP)
4. Configure the NIC for the VM to have the MAC you need.
5. Don't let your network get compromised due to XP.
6. ??
7. Profit.

this is what I would do, absolutely.
since it only serves 5 other machines it wouldn't need to be anything more than win10 pro to run the VM.

but I wasn't too far off with the previous post.
HELP!! Need to find reg key for network adapter!!!! - Windows XP

Quote:
You will need to look under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Networ k. The next subkey contains
keys for your network adaptors. Under the adaptor key is a the Connection
key. A parameter of the Connection key is the friendly name of your adaptor.
Once you've identified the adaptors your looking for, note the key name
(alpanumeric).

Now look at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\lanmanworkstation\Linkage.
You will find a multi string value Bind that lists the order to which your
adaptors are bound to the Workstation Service.

My advice is to only reorder the devices named \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_....
Leave the other devices in their current positions (\Device\NetbiosSmb 1st,
\Device\NwlnkNb last, etc).

I'm taking your advice and building a virtual machine.

I have win10 Pro on my laptop and I understand I have access to Hyper-V virtualization software. Is this a good choice to create the VM?

Do you have other recommendations? First time building a VM so be gentle.

I'll have some flexlm questions too, when I get that far.

Hyper-v is great, and free. Pretty easy to setup too. Perfect for what you need. There are quite a few other options too. Virtualbox, VMware, proxmox, KVM, unRAID,Xen and more.

Ok. I'm at a standstill.

1. VM with Windows 10 Pro - loaded and running. It will not let me install Iona services or ancient Java which is required to run the ancient version of the main software I need. From what I can tell I'm pretty much forced into XP with these older than crap applications.

2. VM with XP - loaded and running. It does not recognize the host network adapter and I've had no luck trying to install from inside XP.

Any suggestions?
