ID this car for me (will be easy)

I know nothing about anything but the only real vehicles, being Jeeps. What is this?

Belongs to a friend's grandfather and if I wind up meeting him I don't want to compliment him on his Acura Integra.

Is that one of the old cars with a long nose to accommodate the inline 8 cylinder engine? Some auto mfg was pumping them out back then.

Yeah, I don't know the story on it, but Google searching shows that grille seems to be popular with the restomod crowd, and everyone chops them.

I don't know what it looked like when he bought it. It might well be a glass body or kit or whatever. Anyways, '39 Chevy is a good enough answer to break the ice and not look like a total Jeeptard.

you could also impress him to know that several manufacturers have their parts interchangeable that year, between the chevys.. pontiacs.. etc

how do I know? cuz my dad and I restored a 39 pontiac silver streak 4 door sedan.. sold it to a good friend of mine..

It's not a '39. I would guess a '37 Chevrolet.

It would also be a 2 door sedan, not a coupe.

internet pictures

1938 chevy, grill looks different, the 1939 has a much wider grill at the top even

1937 pontiac is about the closest look year-wise, but it isn't anywhere close

1938 dodge is just cool and he should have built one of these :fliipoff2:

1937 buick, i bounced around between 38 and 37 and i think the 37 fenders are just a little bit closer, but still nowhere near what you are looking for

and all the way back to 1936 to get the last out-of-the-fender Ford

So yeah, meet him and say "wow, nice jeep!". cuz everything is a jeep anyways.

I wouldn't be embarassed to ask him what year and model it is. Not everyone is a car expert and you certainly don't see one of those everyday. Sweet car tho.

It looks like a hot rod that someone built and ran out of money at the end.

Comet-Snorting?

Here's an idea: Say "Hey, That's a good looking car. Looks like 30s? What is it?"

99% sure it was a 37 Chevy...Now it's just another stupid street rod ...Long hoods were the fashion in the later 1930's

1937 has the most appropriate grill

this is a nice one
