Gtxracer. Your advice is to buy another vehicle when I have 2 perfectly reliable enough vehicles? The jeep is pretty solid and the whole family has only been in there a handful of times. I'm happy with it. I should have built a 4 door but when I started the TJ I only had 1 kid... That build got out of hand and there was no turning back.

I also have an 08 suburban that has been pretty solid and I expect it to be for a few more years yet.

I sold both of my 4 door JKs this year and between the 2 I pretty much broke even. Made enough on the 2013 to cover my total cost of ownership on the 07 over 2 years. I sold them because why build a JK when I'll constantly want a JL.

I've narrowed my next vehicle down to a Tesla model S or a JL. Both are extremely hard to justify right now. Either that or pull my wife's 99 sunfire out of the weeds of her parents house and start driving that again.

How much do you have to put down on new house? Low down payment/ earnest money with a long close window would make your offer look even weaker.

Wow, that's a shit ton of oak; An untouched late 80's/ early 90's time capsule with baseboard heat..

Did it have polybutylene piping too?

Losing that house was probably good thing- everything needs to be updated...

I'm doing the same "99 sunfire" thing, only its an 08 focus with 215K miles. I'll drive this POS till either the wheels fall off or pistons shoot out the hood (I'm hoping for the piston thing.) There is no need in my mind to drive a new car and run up mileage when I can drive this POS and save money for bigger better things.

Perhaps most of your issues lie with poor decision making skills...

once a month (not always regularly) they drain blood out of their bodies as a natural course of 'working as designed' they have to pluck, prune and mess with all manner of things... surprising that those few things would be outside what they want to do....

I suspect other motivations.

That one is going to have extra value because of the backstory.

MSRP was $53,535.
Bought it from an older lady that bought it new in January and commuted to work with it. 5,500 miles.

I paid $41,500 for it.

There are some good deals on new ones out there but this one was still a decent amount cheaper. Wranglers have held their values well over the years. I'll let you know how this one does. I don't expect it to cost more than a couple hundred a month overall.

I like to tell myself that Elon Musk bought this for me. I started trading TSLA stock options (PUTS) on May 15th and within a week I cashed out with more than enough profit to buy this.

Today I bought ROKU puts for the short term. Probably going to lose my ass there but I'm ok with that.

You profited 42k and cashed out? Or made several hundred dollars and can cover a few payments on a fiat?

Yes
An initial $2,000 investment multiplied a bunch of times over a couple of days.
I have no loan on this jeep.

At the end of this week or next I might be broke again. I'm ok with that. My only debt is my mortgage and that's an easy payment.

Wow- that is one hell of a horrible strategy. If I made $42,000 in a few weeks, I sure as hell would not dump it all on a car.

Hell pull $10k for a down payment and let the other 32K keep making you $$$, pull as needed to make payments...

I thought everyone knew it takes money to make money- you just broke rule #1

---if you turned 2k into a 40k profit 20x in a few weeks, don't you think waiting two more weeks and turning 42K into $840,000 would have been a better move---

Impossible. People on this board know with certainty that a new vehicle doesnt lose $10k+ in value within 6 months of purchase.

The 840k is not guaranteed. He's pulling out now because he's ahead. It's like leaving the casino after you've won. Sure you "could" do better but you also risk losing it all. Sure buying a car with it probably isn't the best financial decision but it's his money.

That $2,000 on Wednesday was $109,000 at one point on Monday then fell hard. I cashed out at $55,000 that Monday. I've been trading a little since and it's been up some and down some.

I've been in this situation before and letting it ride isn't always the answer. My greedy brain would have turned that $840,000 into nothing. Gotta pull some once in awhile.

The wife left me with $8,000 to play with and I think that's down to like $5,500 now.

I have 33 ROKU $94 puts bought today expiring tomorrow. We'll see how that turns out. Probably wont be good. I think it's about $5,000 that could be nothing or maybe $20,000 tomorrow.

Stock options. Learn them.
