The fractionate system is what confuses me about foreigners. You could do the same damn thing with a meter or any other unit if you wanted. Do they not teach simple fractions around the world? It's pretty easy to break it down into 16ths or at the worst, 64ths.

I have had to teach tons of foreigners how to say "one quarter" "one third" "five eighths" etc. They all want to say "three over sixteen" or "three over one six" and it confuses everybody until you realize they're trying to state a fraction in word form.

When fabricating/welding, I just use 16ths for everything. 1/4" equals 4/16". But my rulers are all marked as such so it's easy. I have a few small ones marked in 64ths.
This is one of the things that most infuriate me about the english system. Quick add up:

1'-7 3/4"
2'-4 5/32"
7'-0 7/8"

and then tell me how great the fractional system is.

Ok, I get your point, it can be made extremely difficult. Most of the common fractions are pretty easy to memorize and I simply change them over to decimal to add them if I have to, or again, make them all 64ths and make it base 64.

Most people just give inches and fraction if they're going to do it anyway. No tape measure made just has feet and inches. It's also got a total inches measurement, so you say "19 and 3/4"" or "19.75" and make it simple.

Putting 64 tiny marks per inch on a decent rule is an easy way to eyeball precision. I haven't seen a Euro trash tape measure any time recently but most I've seen here only do mm on the metric side and I can eyeball down to 64 marks per inch on the 'murican one, which is why I prefer them. If the European ones have 1/2 mm on them, then they're not as precise, but comparable enough for me to say good to go.

Either way, not understanding fractions to me is on par with not knowing your simple multiplication tables.

pretty sure the pink one my wife keeps in her home repair toolbag is feet and inches only.

I'll check when I get home if i remember.

Don't ever recall seeing a tape measure with 64ths on it only recall 16ths and maybe have seen 32nds. Either way 1mm at 1/25.4ths of an inch seems to split that pretty well. Now on a actual metal scale I prefer to split 32nds by eye then to deal with 64th graduations and can do it accurately enough that much past that your going to be needing a caliper or mic.

Is there a separate tape measure for red-headed cunt hairs? Or would that be the "metric system" of cunt hair measuring?

Who the fuck measures to 32nds of an inch with a tape measure? 16ths is plenty precise for tape measure measurements when working with wood or steel.

Anything that needs to be more precise than that gets dial calipers or a micrometer because it's being fucking machined.

Tapes don't. They are for big measurements. Rulers do. I use those as often as I do dial calipers. Mics are a little more rare but I do have decent enough ones at home and work.

Rulers. I have several that go that far and my vision is good enough to see it. I keep one in my wallet 24/7 because I cant fit a dial caliper or micrometers in there. Believe me, I would if I could. Come to think of it my Mitutoyo squares are 64ths on one side too.

I honestly don't know
That metrological quandary is the primary reason that the CH/RCH system was not internationally adopted.

Though the RCH is still used extensively in precision machining,
most of the world uses inches or (millicubits? microgerbils? - WTFever ).

2'-4 5/16"
7'-0 7/8"

Exactly so if you can split a mm by eye you are good to 1.25/64ths of an inch. Tighter then I am going to trust a metal ruler.

Another reason I don't like that town.
