Been burning for 2 days and can see smoke for 100 miles from it.

Day before a ExxonMobil went up in flames in the same area. You really dont get phased by it when you live here.

Entirely out of the environment, until the front falls off.

They are 10 HUGE tanks. The first to go had a floating lid. They aren't going ANYWHERE
I read the FIRST tank was an 80,000 gallon tank full of naptha possible started by a pump seal failure, but who knows.

AS a side story: in 1994 ish I was trying to get a job as a plant operator and it was a bitch to break into the plants without knowing anyone to vouch for you. The ONE job offer I got was from the terminal yard / tank farm now currently on fire. I turned it down because the money was on the same scale for the company I was working for at the time

there is no way to get the scope of the industry in the Houston ship channel without actually seeing it, but it is fucking impressive

Down in tx at a&m for fire school now. 11 tanks.... They dumped 40k of foam concentrate on it already. Heard they may have mixed it wrong (couldnt confirm) also heard they continued to pump into the first tk on fire for the first day before realizing their mistake.....

It's not like just throwing a couple hoses on it to get it out...letting it burn out and containing the spread is pretty much all you can do.

If you put a lot of foam/water on top of the floating roof it can collapse and expose even more flammables, clearly any roof is gone at this point.

Brayton has a pretty cool setup. I live less than 2 miles away so I'm used to the smoke plumes from the drills. I drove by a lot in school as the range area is just around the corner down the road. So is the nuke reactor you may have noticed. I still need to do a tour of that.

I imagine they are dumping water on anything they can keep cool at this point. Fuck being a responder on one of these types of fires. I wouldn't want to be around for anything else to go up.

My cousin used to work at a Shell refinery in Notrees TX, she told me she always worried about the floating tank lid collapsing on her in the middle of the night when she was making her checks

Pic from my buddy’s house this morning.

Note the San jacinto monument to the left of the fire.

Looks like the fire needs air not water, shits gonna burn why not help it burn clean? Empty the nearby tanks and hit it with air from all around.

80,000 gal? I heard 80,000 barrels.

Yep. A buddy of mine owns a fire suppression company in League City, told me the same thing, wrong mix on their foam. The Deer Park fire is not one of his clients, but I imagine they will be. Some of his guys are working the fire to help them get it contained.

First pic is his, the other two I took this morning from Pearland ~20 miles away from the fire. I was flying yesterday when the fire started but I didn't think to take any pics because I figured they'd get it out pretty quickly.

That's a lot of cow farts, volcanoes and forest fires. Definitely not man made.

the water’s just cooling stuff off... it won’t put out the fire. Foam can,but you have the aforementioned problems of weight. Just try to cool off adjacent equipment and let it burn out... it’s burning as clean as it gets..

I heard Gallons but the local news said barrels, so I’ll go with the news report and say it’s barrels.

You can put floating tk fires out with shit tons of water and foam..... Flipping the roof is possible but you usually dont just chalk up any tank that starts on fire. Ha
