Wtf is this piece found in trans pan?

We dropped the trans pan on a recently acquired van (99 E150) at work, and found this piece in the bottom of the pan. Our best guess is it was a plug for the dipstick tube hole prior to assembly and it got shoved into the pan with the installation of the dipstick tube rather than being pulled first. We're going with that theory unless informed otherwise.

Wtf is this?

Plugged the dipstick hole on the assembly line, they just push it in with the tube.

Maybe someone was fishing for something in the pan? Did you find a hook too?

It means the trans has not been serviced for 20 years.

Nope, our rigs usually rust out before a trans service is needed. It is possible that it is a plug installed in the factory to plug up rust holes in the pan.

I can not understand why everyone in the salt belt takes it as normal.

I no kidding found one of these years ago in the pan of a '99 E-150 my boss had and was like wtf?

But yes, it pops in there upon assembly. According to a guy I called who builds transmissions, they call it a "widget". Generally lets you know if someone actually serviced the thing or not, so if it has like 150K, you know you got fucked on your purchase.

This one has 8x,000 miles.

I can't understand how people elsewhere can consider piles of venomous snakes, soiders, and creepy crawlies normal. Or thosr fucking sand star daggers chilling about on the ground. Or consider green/brown ponds/sewage lagoons normal "lakes".

I find those fucking things in the morning when I'm still half asleep. Visiting my buddy in new mexico, I pour a cup of coffee, and think, wow, it's a lovely morning outside, I'll take this cup of coffee outside with me and enjoy the warm morning sun in my pajamas and bare feet! Then the lawn attacks me like a vietnamese ambush, they wait till I'm in the middle of the yard, and then they strike, from all directions stabbing and jabbing into my feet causing me to jump around like an idiot, just landing in the jungle attack squadrons of fucking sand stars of death until I fall face first onto the concrete and lie there covered in blood, coffee, fear, and defeat. Just in time for the dog to limp over and present his foot with only one of the fucking things stuck in its paw, showing irrelevant compassion, and moreso urgency that I get the enemy out of its foot.

That's where I find those fucking things.

Shops don’t drop the pans on trannys anymore, just “supposedly” flush out the old fluid with new stuff.
