Hearing aids

Well, after a few years of the wife "reminding" me, I went to see the Audiologist. She told me what I already knew, my hearing sux. 10 years of working around jets on the flight deck and lots of rock concerts didn't do me any favors. Got them last Wednesday and I'm hearing stuff I haven't heard in years. These things have gotten uber sophisticated. The batteries in them are wireless rechargeable and they're blue tooth capable. I have to download an app onto my phone and when I go back Wednesday next week the Audiologist is going to pair it up to the hearing aids. I'll be able to adjust the overall volume and also adjust the volume of multiple freq. bands. Should be fun to play with.

Is it possible to tune just the wife out or will you have to do like my grandfather did and turn them off when he gets home for peace and quiet?

I don't think it's possible to tune out 1 person, unless they only speak in one freq. range. Hmmmmmmm, have to explore that.

I'm gonna have to wait for the ones that amplify deer noises while tuning out squirrel noises. It'd be nice if they also cancel out gunfire.

Had mine almost 10 years now...They have come a long ways. Workman's Comp pays for mine. They are neat, can do a lot with them. I would rather have my hearing back though.
If you are working around a lot of noise, wear hearing protection.

No replacement batteries needed. That's one thing that got me to accept them. They're rechargeable. They come with a box that has 2 pockets you just drop the aids into and they recharge wirelessly. A 4 hour recharge is good for 30 hours of wear. My insurance is supposed to cover 90% of the cost.

We have a bunch of guys at work that mumble. Drives me crazy. Esp when then walk up and start asking a question mid stride, while I am next to a machine or other noise maker. Normal response is what, start over. When the same people do it all the time it gets annoying.

My hearing has been tested and is fine. So I know it is not me, rather them mumbling over background noise.

I am waiting for my call to HR, since the other day I told the one kid to take the dick out of his mouth before he talks to me. Talks like Boomhower, and I am supposed to know what the fuck he is saying. Or people that will turn away mid sentence then turn back and expect you know what they said. WTF

Lost mine during a move and miss it. Really helps when there is a lot of crowd noise.

I had some Siemens ones that did that, batteries went to shit inside of a year: wouldn’t make it through an eight hour day. That, and some software problems that they couldn’t get worked out, and they just shitcanned them. Wore Resound ones after that for a couple of years, now I’ve got Widex. Bluetooth, etc., etc.... The batteries are pretty cheap on amazon and last right at a week. Having had both, I prefer the regular batteries...

Mine are Resound. We'll see how they work/last. They do have 4 year warranty where they'll fix anything, so that's nice.

If you have the hearing aids, your boyfriend may have been putting it in the wrong hole all these years.

We should hang out.

My wife waits for me to walk as far away in the house that I can get and then starts talking to me. When I tell her I can't hear her, she complains my hearing sucks. I've had it checked every year. It's fine.

Additionally, working in close quarters all the time, I tell people that are in my way "pardon me". When they say "what?" I respond "pardon me is French, for get the fuck out of my way."

It doesn't go over well.

The batteries crapping out wasn’t the real issue why I like the regular replaceable batteries better: it was just having to tote that charger around. If I want to go on a hunting trip or something, just make sure I’ve replaced them recently enough to carry me through the weekend, rather than having to carry that charger with me all the time.

Rock concerts, 9 years of rattling around in APCs, everything from a 1911 to TOW missile ranges here...

Do they do anything for Tinnitus?

I would rate my tinnitus a solid 7 out of 10. Went to VA and had my ears checked. Results came back saying I had some hearing loss, but not anything that would classify as “service related disability”.

I’m not looking for a fat check, I just want to turn down the constant high frequency noise in my head

some of them have programs for tinnitus, but I personally haven’t found one that really helps much. YMMV.

I figured as much. It’s hard enough to explain to someone, it’s got to be even harder to make it go away

I tried some ear drops claiming to help, all they did was make my ears wet
