A letter to the buyer of my 10 gauge

The buyer of my 10 gauge.

Congratulations, you now own a piece of history. When you remove this legendary device from the packaging, you will note some blemishes, dents in the wood, and scars from wear. These arenít from abuse, they are from real world use. Not weekend hunting a few times a year, but as tool used to wage war on varmints. I am talking about not only killing the varmint, but killing it, digging the grave, and burying it all in one shot. Yes, my friend you now have the ability to plow up the ground and litter it with hide, fur, and tissue over a freshly tilled patch of ground all in one single 3.5 inch magnum shotgun blast.

The second thing you will note is the weight. Yes, this shotgun is heavy. It is not heavy because it was built like a 3 pound Hotchkiss Mk II cannon. The weight comes from all the souls of the animals it has dispatched. The numerous turkeys, coyotes, foxes, crows, coons, squirrels, and lesser beings that have had their family tree sawed off to an abrupt end. Not only was this fine piece used to plow turkeys under at 70 yards, or coyotes running through the autumn olive by me, its prior owner was the legendary Mike King. Yes, that Mike King, the man that has killed more animals than I-77. If there were a notch on the stock for each animal that has succumb to its blast, the stock would be whittled down to a toothpick or less.

So as the new owner of this fine piece of ground plowing, death dealing, steel and wood from hillbilly land, you are now responsible for continuing the saga of spreading lead like a disease that kills vermin, becoming a legend that keeps coyotes up at night and coons up in daylight worrying if they will be next. If you cannot keep this commitment, you must pass this responsibility along to a person as equally committed to carrying on the wrath of this arm with prejudice.

Sincerely,
Matt

Is this like a craigslist style listing or are you actually selling a gun. I mean cuz if you are, pretty sure you've already got pirate buyers lined up.

12 gauge side by side is enough for my shoulder, but if the 10 gauge is for sale, post it up

These things still use brass shells? Buyer should get a bucket of them with the gun.

I hope it stayed in the family or went to a good home at least.
The history is part of why I like my inherited guns so much.

They look like a 12ga shell with elephantitis. 3 1/2 inches of pure goose busting power. The 3 1/2 12ga shell looks like someones got a case of pencil dick, these things just look like they're gonna hurt OG Mudbone style.

Last all brass shotgun shell I saw was an old 8ga 00 buck load. Only modern thing I've seen that takes them was an industrial shotgun for busting clinkers out of the ball mills in the mines and they switched to 3oz zinc slugs for environmental reasons.

One I had wasn't too bad. I sold it because a guy a worked with really wanted it and I didn't have much use for it.

Was just a cheap single shot New England Firearms.

My grandfather had a double barrel 10ga. It was kind of a right of passage to be allowed to shoot it.

Thing he always 'forgot' to mention was that the second trigger would be set off by the first if both hammers were cocked.

13yo me was very excited to shoot it, until I shot it, and then picked my self up off the ground to a group of laughing adults.

I am pretty sure my uncle still has it, I should ask him

I know what they look like I remember my dad loading them and popping primers every once in a while, which seemed to be peculiar with those shells. All of the shells were brass, so apparently they are making plastic ones now b/c that's all you could get or all they had available back then.

I've never seen an 8ga but I remember that side by side 10ga. They used it on geese and I think both my dad and uncle bought it. Anyway they sold it when geese started getting scarce back in the '70s.

Switch hands?

After a bunch of practice I can shoot as badly left handed as I can with my right. This will likely be extremely helpful in the event I'm caught it the apocalypse and can only scavenge a left handed rifle.

It may help I'm left eye dominant.
