The current hot race axle is an 8.8 with 9" outers welded on. Explorer rear is 31 spline and a tad stronger than a GM 12 bolt. Would be even stronger with an affordable FRPP/Cobra differential. They use the same bearings and are extremely similar in construction to the 12 bolt chunk.

I almost went 9" in my fox until I did more reading on them. They are not junk, at all.

You can write the letters
"M U S T A N G"
On a piece of paper and the value goes up.

Now, why on earth there is so much interest in 351w's when LS1's are so cheap these days is beyond me? I sold a couple of rebuild able 351w cores locally for $500 each last year. Think I paid like $150 maybe 15 years ago. Built, they go for starting at $3,500+ depending on the guts.

Mustang buyers are of a different breed. I also sold a gutted '86 mustang hatch back with no interior and no title for an amazingly $600 like 5 years ago that I acquired on a bulk trade. Sold within just a couple of weeks on CL. Dude drove like 250 miles to get it.

The car you have in the pics is a 67. Has the two fake air intake vents on the rear quarters, no side turn signals on the front fenders, and the '67 grille chrome piece sitting on the shelf. That thing looks real solid for a NE car. I'd say do the trade if you could find a way to clean up the paperwork.

Looking at the title shows 159 Eighth St in Newington CT. In the early 90's I used to deal in Ford parts with a guy at the other end of Eighth St. He traveled between LA and CT to work at ERA Cobra, and also specialized in DeTomaso Panteras.

Your YJ is worth $6500 with stock 4cyl axles or the Currie axles. You have to think about who your buyer is with that Jeep. It's not the PBB rock crawler crowd. You should definitely be swapping axles out.

They bought it on that now-so-popular 720-month payment plan. Just $100/mo for the rest of your life...

This.

And the Mustang is low-interest. The engine appears to be the most boring way to do a 351W. What are the specs? 351Ws were made to stroke and be FI. And what is that high-strung manifold on it?

I'd take the YJ over the Mustang and I don't even like Jeeps and I like Fords.

But this isn't my world nor PBB's world. It's a world where people go Ape-y over Mustangs.

I think you have enough mechanical aptitude that those kinds of things are non-issues.

I would just run it. A year isn't that long. If you have issues then address them.

Looks like there are some good parts there. That lobe separation angle on the camshaft is gonna make for a fun idle.
