You can buy 707hp Hellcat crate engines for $15k. Seems like a helluva premium to pay for an extra 30ish cubic inches and 290ish HP, but I'm not exactly their target market either.

Did you read the quote I fixed?
I can afford a 3.4 swap into my 4runner. No way I am even dreaming of a 1000 motor.

Hell, you can buy a 772hp 572 cubic inch crate motor from GM for around $15k. I guaran-damn-tee with an additional $15k to throw at it you'd be blowing the doors off of that 1000hp 426 hemi.

If I had $30k to burn, it certainly wouldn't be on a GM engine.

I'm not a manufacturer fanboy. You give me a new Camaro ZL1, Mustang GT500, and Dodge Hellcat to choose between and I'd have a DAMN hard time making that choice. I'd be happier than a pig in shit with any of them.

My manufacturer of choice no longer exists, but there are many that do exist that I absolutely refuse to own.

Which just shows your ignorance. If you were a follower of what has happened since the early '90s with Chrysler, you would know that they are nowhere near the same company. Everything has changed from their design strategies to how they do business. Some for the better, most for the worst. You can make all the rationalization YOU want, but the truth isn't what you think it is, it's what is actually fact. And a point of fact is that the Chrysler Corporation ceased to exist in 1998 with the merger with Daimler-Benz AG.

Nice rationalization. Companies change all the time. Like I said, different name.

Wow, really? Please do tell me why you think that. They wouldn't exist in any form today if they hadn't changed dramatically for the better starting in the mid-late 90's.

Yup, and both Ford and GM have also done similar.

Possibly, and if they had gone out of business, then maybe that was what should have happened, but like it or not, the Chrysler Corporation of the '50s, '60s, '70s and '80s is not the same company in existence today, for better or worse. You can't deny it anymore than I can deny that continuing to do business as they were may have put them out of business. All of the "big three" underwent massive changes in how they do business in the '80s, '90s and '2,000s and not all of them were good changes. Some were brought on by foreign competition, some by EPA regs, some by cost savings attempts. But I doubt anyone will deny that a car made today will not last as long as one made in the '70s or '80s. The manufacturers today prove their desire to dispose of old vehicles by no longer even making parts for older models past a certain time. In years past, they would keep making parts to service their vehicles for decades. These days you are lucky to get any parts specific to a 10 year old vehicle from any manufacturer. All of them want you to buy new, and then buy new again and continue to do so. Good for them, but bad for the consumer.

But no matter how you spin it, the manufacturers are not what they were and Chrysler Corporation in particular, one I have followed all my life and worked under for many years, basically did a 180 turn in the way they do business both as far as new vehicles and support for older vehicles. Yes, they still make some decent vehicles, but the quality and durability is not what it once was and most of their designs are just keeping pace with the competition and not innovating or pushing technology in any way like they used to decades ago. But all things change, I simply do not wish to follow in step with those changes and will continue to work on my "old junk" and let you fuckers pay a year's salary for a pickup that won't be worth a damn 15 years later. Just my .02

$ per HP is more exponential than linear. so that extra 290hp gets expensive.
