Kinda that way for everything. Guns, binoculars, electronics, etc. Up until a certain point, you can spend a little more to get considerably better gear but everything has a point of diminishing returns where you have to start spending considerably more to get a little better gear.

Bicycles are one of the worst offenders. The difference between a $7500 bike and a $11k bike can't even be felt by most riders. But that 1.5lb difference in weight and 5% increase in rigidity will certainly cost you.

Yep. I bought my bike on sale a few years back for $2k. Those $9k bikes were lighter and a little smoother, but fuck that. If in paying near five figures I ain't peddling shit. The guys who can really benefit from those bikes are getting them for free anyway.

All the above true..plus a crate engine has met internal durability standards... If I buy that GM 572 Crate it was tested at 650 HP... throw a blower EFI and 18 PSI of boost at it... no guarantees...

Chrysler gave Mark Worman from Graveyard Carz the first crate motor for free. He's putting it in this for Sema this year.

Not to mention there are MANY things you'd do differently on a FI specific build, different for S/C vs. turbo as well. Lower compression, different cc chamber volumes, different cam timing, ring types, piston shapes and alloys, head gasket types, rod design and alloys, just for starters and that doesn't get into the machining differences that'd be required to accommodate these.

One size does not fit all and you can't buy (any manufacturers' crate) and just slap whatever power adder(s) you want on it and expect it to live for very long. This is why custom machine shop builds will always have a place.
