2019 Firewood Thread

Already made two trips out to the horse ranch, cutting with fellow veterans.

This tree was standing dead and right next to the fence, they were worried about it falling on its own and damaging the fence. So some care had to be taken to not drop it on the fence.

Put new wood siding and floor on the firewood trailer, it was old and falling apart. Also upgraded to a 5,200 lb 12Ē brake axle, it was a 3,500 lb idler axle. The other axle was a 4Ē drop, this one is straight. So I extended the ramp/tailgate to compensate for the taller trailer, it was just enough the way it was. Wouldnít have worked this way.

cut down two trees yesterday.
probably cut down another 6 or so this weekend.
log splitter fired on it's second pull. not bad for 1930's briggs and stratton.
no hauling for me. chain it to tractor, drag it to wood pile, make rounds.

I cut almost a years supply today in the mountains, trees blown over a trail, had the Jeep so couldn't bring any home
I have quite a bit of wood cut and split left from last year but I need to get about 3 cord or so before it gets too damn hot.

I cut a trailer load of oak out in the national forest a few weeks ago. Built a storage rack and started splitting it, been using the Hultafors version of this and itís wicked as long as there arenít too many knots.

https://www.amazon.com/Hults-Bruk-Sp...gateway&sr=8-3

Need a couple more loads to fill up my rack which will be about a cord and a half. Hard to know how much we will actually burn as itís the first year with a fireplace. Not really using it for heat, but we like to have a fire most nights during the cool season.

Woods just opened May 1st, still pretty sloppy, been raining/snowing the last week. Hope to get started in a few weeks. Anxious to run the 455 rancher now that I opened up the exhaust and turned up the fuel, seems to pull much harder.

My son loves to run the splitter. Making wood to keep mommy warm.

He loves that daddy built the splitter and I tell him its gonna be his one day. He's usually good for about 4-5 rounds and then he'll go chase butterflies or look for bugs.
