Tough Paint?

I need to paint a very large safe. It will be exposed to normal shop type activities, grinding sparks, things bumping it, etc. My first thought was garage floor epoxy paint since itís been holding up fine on the floor. Iíve no problem rolling it on this resulting in a textured finish, but my gut says the floor epoxy will want to self level...to the bottom of the safe.

Will something such as the box store garage floor epoxy work on vertical metal surfaces? If not, what will, that will be as tough?

I would use regular water-based exterior house latex paint. Once cured you can hit it with a hammer. If you really fuck it up it is easily touched up.

If that is not enough, CARC.

Second on house paint. Just make sure it cures before you try and fuck it up.

Imron. Spray it and forget about it for 30 years. That stuff is amazing.

If you go the oil based route, Iím a big fan of Sherwin Williams KEM 400 line of paint. Iíve painted trailers, Jon boat, and a bunch of homemade tools and shovels with it. It will hold up to abuse. If you want to dull it, youíll have to Scotch pad it though. I donít think SW makes a flat finish in KEM 400.

Sherwin Williamsís Pro Industrial Multisurface Acrylic does really well on metal, runs about $40/gallon, and can be brushed, rolled, or sprayed.

Another vote for this or any xylene based epoxy through an HVLP gun. After a week of cure, you could hit it with a sledge and itíll just smile back at you, but you gotta have good ventilation when you apply. First time I shot xylene was in a closed room and I had no idea how much it fucked with me until hours later when my proper judgment returned.

Get some of that hammered finish paint.

Get it in a quart can and brush/roll it on. Shit is tough, looks good, and leaves a nice textured finish.

Majic tractor and implement paint from Tractor Supply. You can brush it, roll it, or thin it and spray throgh a HVLP gun. You get a choice of colors too.

https://www.kbs-coatings.com/

The have some coatings that are virtually indestructible once dried and the prices are reasonable and the products are VERY high quality.

No shit, sherlock!

Most of the smoker is fairly cool, easily able to put your hand on it (walls are 2" thick, fully filled with rock wool insulation.) I need to stuff more insulation around the firebox, that area gets a little hotter than I'd like

Since we've already got a cheap paint and fuckery thread going for today... I'm needing to paint a service box. Some places are going to be a fucking nightmare to get to with a standard paint sprayer.

Has anybody used either a garden sprayer or an engine cleaning gun like such:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/High-Pressu...rP7LA7uef3SoFQ

To spray thinned down oil based paint with? I am going to use some Van Sickle Alkyd Enamel thinned down and with a hardener. I don't care about the paint quality in these hard to get at areas, rather just want them coated with paint. All the easier to spray areas will be hit with a proper gravity fed paint gun for a decent finish.

Just go to horrible freight and get one of the pressure pot sprayers. I use them to paint my conveyors and what not, works well enough for $65. After about 10-15 gallons through them you toss them out and buy a new one. Make sure you buy that pressure regulator that goes on the can it has some mysterious china type thread on it lol.
