Cutco for $100

What is this Cutco knifes kool-aid? I have a very nice young lady in my living room trying to sell knives to my parents of 86 years old. Is this a pyramid scheme? I am fucking busy and just passing buy listening to just little tid-bits of her sales pitch.

I've tried 'em.... I figure I have better knives already. One of Cutco's selling points is free sharpening... which you should know how to do anyway.

Do 86 yr olds need bowling ball handle knives? My brother sold them for awhile, seemed stupid to me. Salespeople get paid on commission

My brother bought a set for himself, and then tried to sell them to other people. You probably don't get to be a salesperson if you don't buy them but I can't say for sure. Its been 30 yrs since he got involved with that and he's dead now so I can't ask how his knife sales ended up.

Yes, it’s like 185 for a starter set iirc. My dumbass ex got caught up in this.

The knives themselves are actually pretty decent. The whole selling tactic is just shady as fuck, though. Basically they sel the knives to you, and then you rely on friends and family (who you can also recruit), for sales of the knives. Those people are supposed to give you contacts of people they know who may be potentially interested in the knives.

Ah; Ok.

IIRC; their revenue is mostly the sales from their the own sellers!

A major legal scam!

Appears to be a variation of Amway.

Its a typical "Network Marketing" business model. Honestly though, we have a set of Cutco knives that my uncle gave us 13 years ago when we got married. They are ugly as shit, but they cut awesome

Just another “multi level marketing” scam.

Ha I tried selling those in High School. Wasn't good at it. But I gave the knives I got to my folks and they still use them and like them just fine. I probably wouldn't buy them now. I like the thin Japanese style carbon blades.

Parents were able to keep their wallets in check. When you 86; you stay the fuck out of the kitchen anyway. This kid is soon going to realize that selling stuff is a bitch. She is really trying to help pay her way through college; I know her family and the humble life she has. My dad recognized the "Amway" scheme and was spot on with some hard pointed questions to her.

I am going to sit back and see how her freshman year pans out; just might help her out next year.

Tell the girl she’s better off selling pussy to get through college.

I was duped into their training session before I realized it was a sell shit to your friends and family business model. They had little cards all over my college campus saying you can make 10$/hour which was a lot back in the day. Knives are decent but you can get better for the same price.

Excellent buys at Estate sales and auctions, just like old Craftsman tools. Buy and send in for sharpening. Sell at large profit. Not like they sold for new but they bring good ebay money. Yes it is MLM for sure.

It should be great experience for her. If she can keep her ethics in check it’s good training for later in life. I wish I had sales experience at a young age, I would probably have a lot less sales anxiety now.

Garbage overpriced stamped steel knives sold by multi-level marketing sales droids.

Go buy yourself some decent German or Japanese forged knives that you can sharpen yourself.

I was at costco today and noticed they had a display going. Are they pushing these knives because of new ownership/new management or what? The handles are funky, but I'm no knife person.
