Murder / Suicide in Santa Cruz

Sad, It's in Aptos, but people don't know where that is.
Bob was a member here.

Quote:
APTOS — A man killed his wife and turned the gun on himself in an apparent domestic-related murder-suicide Sunday at an Aptos home at the 500 block of Cuesta Drive, authorities said.

A relative called Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office about 7 p.m. to report an injured person in the house — a split-level home with two Porsches and a Range Rover SUV in the driveway. Monday morning, crime-scene investigators worked the scene, removing items placed in brown paper bags. The front door was open as the family’s large sheep dog barked from the back porch.

When deputies went to the home Sunday night, relatives were at the scene and 45-year-old Janell Mann’s body lay on the living room floor, still visible through the front window, Sgt. Dee Baldwin said.

“Family members went there to go meet with Janell and through the window, they could see her,” Baldwin said.

She had been shot multiple times with a weapon that has been recovered as evidence.

Janell’s parents declined to comment.

Amid the dog’s loud barking, deputies found her husband, 56-year-old Robert Mann, with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in his bedroom.

No one else is sought in the case, Baldwin said.

Neighbors said the couple was not social in the five years since the Manns moved to the house on the hill. Large, well-kept homes surrounded the site where the couple died Sunday night. The yard was maintained just as the neighbors’ were.

There were no bullet holes in the windows or walls in the front of the house. It is unclear what provoked the shooting.

Neighbors who spoke to the Sentinel did not hear gunshots.

Robert Mann was known for his handy work and he once fixed a neighbor’s car horn that became stuck while blaring. He liked to work on cars, neighbors said.

The last murder-suicide that made headlines in the area happened on Chestnut Street in Santa Cruz in January 2016.

Detectives request anyone with information about the couple to call investigations at 831-454-7635.

I can't even imagine dealing with knowing them IRL. Prayers for everyone trying to make their way through this

Seems like they had it going on living the dream, wonder what could’ve triggered this to happen?

For many that's never dealt with it, from the outside things can look great but depression has a very dark side than many never know about.

Many people suffering from it can seem to be over achievers.

I have no idea if it has any bearing on this at all.

Fuck. That's a username I haven't seen in years but I do remember him. He was one of the very few who predate myself.

Just terrible.
