Toyotas the new Jeeps?

Whats going on? The prices I am seeing on older Toyotas is crazy. Are they really selling for $6-10k for mild built first gens? If so I am putting mine on the market. I was only building it and not a buggy because I figured I couldn't get $2500 for it and it was worth more than that to me to keep it. But if I can get $4-5k for it and keep all the parts that haven't gone on it yet then its worth selling and buying a pile of tube.

Yes and no.

Ive bought dozens and never paid more than $1000 for a running rust free truck. I passed on one today for $500 with a "blown moter" because I didnt feel like screwing with it.

You also have brown jungle people who buy everything their greasy paws can grasp.

Old jeeps are usually cheaper then toyotas around here. Mild built toyotas fo seem to be listed for 6-10k but I'm not sure that's what they bring. A clean stocker seems to be worth 4k wll day but I'd say 5% are clean. Average beaters are $1000-2500

As homosexuality has become 'mainstream' and is being pushed by media, politicians, and corporations, naturally the demand for a 'lifestyle' vehicle tailored to this particular flavour of sexual deviance has exploded.

In the southeast I see 90s model Toyota pickups for $6500- $8k on Craigslist all the time with 250-300k miles on em. Somebody is paying the money but it ain’t me.
Now my buddy bought a 87 ifs 4x4 regular cab for $1,000 from a coworker of his last year. He drives it everywhere. But the same truck would have been $3000 if for sale on Facebook or whatever. I don’t have Facebook so I can’t browse the sell groups.

PNW is the land of the expensive AF Toyotas. Tacomas, 1st and 3rd Gen 4runners, 1st Gen Tundras, and anything lifted or quad cab brings outrageous money even for basket case 200k milers. My neighbor just sold his CHERRY 85 4runner for like 9k. Granted it had a freshly built motor and was extremely clean, and he was the original owner.

Yes, when they are clean they can easily bring $5-10k, same for the 2nd and 3rd gens around me, the 1st gen Tacoma and the collectors market has brought their values up a lot.

They've exploded in popularity the last few years. I paid $2500 for an '85 Xtra Cab that already had a lift/tires and it was the 3rd or 4th truck I looked at in that price range but that was in '04-05. Had an '86 5-6 years ago that I bought for $1500 but it was pretty ugly when I bought it.

They're hitting that age like 3rd gen F bodies and Fox Mustangs are where guys that had one or wanted to have one in highschool are willing to pay for a clean one now. They were cheap for a long time and a lot of them just plain got used up.

Tacomas are probably bottoming in price. They might be at the basement, some sites were saying they're going up.

A std cab manual no power anything 4x4 Tacoma is getting to be rare.

I bought a single owner 1994 Xtra cab Toyota pickup 2wd for $5000. Spent its entire life in the desert. Original owner bought it new in 1994 when he retired. He passed away about 2 years ago. I got it from the widow. Not a speck of rust anywhere. It was garage kept the entire time they owned it. Truck had 147,XXX miles. V6 auto cruise control A/C. It is the perfect truck to chop the fuck out of. Old lady thinks I am crazy.

The cleanly built Toyotas or super clean stockers are going for big money. Not the clapped out ruined pieces of shit

A stock Toy pickup or 4-Runner is:

Show quality: 13-15K
with some rust and a bit of love: 8-10K
Rusty as crap ones are going for 5K

They sell very fast in Europe - Rust free US Toyotas are "up there" in price.

Too bad the seller is fixated on it being a California (diesel) truck so it's automatically worth $10,000 or more and he won't budge on price.

Show quality can go for more as Barret Jackson has proved at $53k for a first gen as well as another at $25k that I saw on there

https://www.hagerty.com/articles-vid...-sells-for-55k

But In Northern ca( I see sunnyvale in your title)

you are missing on category and that is very clean non rusted out stock trucks. I think your $5 to $10k goes right there for the most part Maybe 12k if it is a super clean 4runner

Your other 2 price ranges seem high to me. $2500 to 4500 for a stocker with a little bit of rust.

$1000 to $3000 for a rust bucket.. Just my opinion but I buy and sell a lot of them..

What do you consider a mild build? To some it's bolt on. To others an engine swap, dual cases, skids, and links on 37s is mild.
