New Orleans v2.0?

decided to make it's own thread as this might could be a remake, but worse than Katrina.

The MS River at NO is the highest it's been in 70 or so years. NO just had a rain event yesterday that has the pumps taxed already and the storm hasn't hit yet.

River supposed to hit 19ft without the storm. Storm surge in places is 3ft-6ft. Rainfall is 12+". Much of the levee that protects NO from the MS is protected to 20ft

AND?

Quote:
City officials urged residents to shelter in place rather than evacuate as the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 miles per hour (64 kph) as of 2 p.m. CDT (1900 GMT) on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.
Storm Barry bears down on New Orleans with 'extreme rain,' ...

Quote:
Forecasters issued a storm-surge warning of up to 6 feet (1.8 m) for a stretch of Louisiana coastline south of already-sodden New Orleans stretching from the mouth of the Atchafalaya River to Shell Beach. Rain was an equal danger, given that the lower Mississippi River, which runs through New Orleans, has been above flood stage for six months.

The lower Mississippi is forecast to peak at 19 feet (5.9 m) on Saturday, the highest it has been since 1950, according to the National Weather Service.

Meteorologists predicted between 10 and 20 inches (25 and 50 cm) of rain would fall on the Gulf Coast on Friday and Saturday from East Texas through New Orleans and the Louisiana coast.

'CANNOT PUMP OUR WAY OUT'

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell warned that 48 hours of heavy rainfall could overwhelm the pumps the city uses to fight floodwater, leading to flooding as early as Friday morning.

"We cannot pump our way out of the water levels that are expected to hit the city of New Orleans," Cantrell said. "We need you to understand this."

Water pumps already were working at capacity after heavy rains, she said.

Cantrell said no official evacuation orders were being issued but urged people to gather supplies, secure their property and shelter in place.

Texas is locking their doors. Stay the fuck out. It’s taking 14 years and counting to fix the clusterfuck of transplants that came here the first time.

I find it ironic that bush sent it to NO to kill black people. Obama kept hurricanes away, now trump sent it to NO and named it “berry”.

Fact. Fuck NO, maybe this time it'll all wash away to the point they don't spend billions of tax dollars to rebuild that dump.

I just want to let you guys know this is all happening because of climate change and the only solution would be a carbon tax.

Shelter in place = eat, drink and be merry, and have a flotation device.

It's like people on the Outer Banks being surprised when hurricanes blow their house down.

And the rest of our States insurance rates subsidize them!

I don't care where people choose to build but at some point they should not be insurable and you are on your own if you choose to rebuild in a place where things are proven likely to be destroyed, again.

Plus it's getting lower. Flooding with sediment laden river water is what built the area up in the first place as the lower mush subsided. Flood control stopped the depositing of soil, nothing stops the sinking.
