I know right? I like where they are checking his cars black box to see if he was speeding to determine fault. Shouldn't matter the pig ran the stop sign, he's at fault.

The guy in the red car was driving beyond the speed limit.

But the COP was in the wrong as well by obviously running a stop sign

They sure do. Was hit head on recently by an AMG C63. CHP (MAIT) had to get clearance to confiscate the box and download the data, took a few months. Results came in at 115 @ point of impact, CHP immediately issued a warrant for her arrest.

I'd bet on it just being the freeze-frame data when it sets codes.
it saves a snapshot of the can-bus data any time a code is set to help with diagnostics, and when you set off airbags lots of codes immediately set

Based on a separate NHTSA regulation passed in 2012, if a vehicle today does have an event data recorder, it must track 15 specific data points, including speed, steering, braking, acceleration, seatbelt use, and, in the event of a crash, force of impact and whether airbags deployed.

Depending on the automaker and car model, an event data recorder may capture many more functions, though car companies aren't required to disclose exactly what those are.

...
Most event data recorders are programmed to record data in a continuous loop, writing over information again and again until a vehicle is in a front-end collision or other crash. When an accident occurs, the device automatically saves up to 5 seconds of data from immediately before, during and after an incident.

This was from an article in 2014, so newer probably has a hell of a lot more data. It was just the first article that came up on the search.

Remember that nurse in Utah that got arrested for refusing to draw blood from an unconscious patient?

Basically the same situation. Cops pursuing a suspect at high speeds, suspect dies when he runs into a truck, trucker ends up in the hospital. Cops want to implicate the trucker in the accident to deflect from their high speed pursuit.

So they can claim they found drugs in the car, in his system, and he was speeding, making him at fault for the wreck and not their running the stop sign, of course. Which would have been the outcome if not for the video, now it is how can we cover ours asses, save the troopers their job, and avoid civil law suit.

IMO, both troopers should be terminated for their actions, and no ability to collect a pension, or work again in LE. Whenever an Officer acts wrongly on duty or under the authority he has to act when off duty, he should be made an example of, regardless of the actual harm done.

X2. From the video, it looks like the kid in the Honda is hauling ass. If the cop had stopped at the stop sign, the outcome of this whole thing would have been the same, except the vehicles wouldn't be totaled.
