Here's a pic of Sandy Beach on the eastern shore of Oahu. Prime body surfing spot.

Newport Beach!

I scuba dived many times off off those beaches back in the late 60's early 70's.
And I do remember those waves being a bitch some days to get through. way back then.
Caoming back to shore could be tricky too......

I mean, thats gotta be rare... The absolute worst way I could imagine checking out is a long drawn out battle or getting hit in the balls by lightning.
I think having Indians burry you up to your neck in sand or spread out tied to stakes where ants eat you alive after you’re sunburnt... that’d be a horrible way to go imo.

Not too surprised he broke his neck. Doesn't take much if you hit wrong.

I remember being about 6 years old with my dad at the beach near Pismo. We heard a blood curdling scream from a woman who's 3 year old son got sucked out by a wave. I just remember my dad looking at me and saying "DON'T MOVE!" As he went in to try and save her son.....

The body washed up 2 days later. Still gives me chills

got beat into the sand many times by the big waves there

Happens a lot. When you are surfing a 12 foot wave and there is 2.5 feet between you and the reef shit goes bad quick.

I’ve been knocked so fucking senseless surfing so many times it’s not funny. The sand is concrete and even a 3’ fall is a body slam X10. Split lips, bloody noses, open 1/2” holes in the back of the head. Stand up on a 5’ wave and it’s a 10’ fall head first onto pavement basically.

What a way to spend the day at the beach!!

Ima sure that the leather strips that has been dunked in water & stretched out is the worse. The Natives would tie the strips to wrists & ankles, which the sun would dry out & shrink the straps cutting into your skin.... Bleed out slowly, thus attracting ants, bugs,....you get the picture-
