Getting gasoline stink out of car interior

So we've been on the generator since Sunday night when we lost power. I went to go get the 3x 5 gallon tanks filled and I made a turn too quick and over went all three cans in the back seat of my car. What gets rid of the gas smell other than time?

Sprinkle liberally with baking soda. Get large bags for cheap at a pool supply - even Walmart has it. Let sit, vacuum, repeat and then Febreze.

Get the car ridiculously hot inside. Some sort of heater that won’t bring a spark. Should force a pretty good evaporation result

next time have them in garbage bags, that's what I do if they're not in the bed of a truck. You're welcome.

Nothing, just be sure to spill high octane (110+) next time so it at least smells good.

Like was said, time and air is the only thing I know of. You might speed it up by taking the seats out and stripping the upholstery off but gas does tend to eat certain kinds of foam so I would be careful with that.

This, I went through the same thing a few weeks ago. Used most of a 2lb box but the smell is completely gone now. I used a stiff brush to work it into the carpet.

Clean it with pure heptane. Heptane leaves no residue or odor, but will lift any of the components of gasoline since it is one of the main hydrocarbons in gasoline. Spray on, soak it up with a sorbent pad or white towel, keep the sparks and open flames to a minimum. Then air it out.

After that give it a steam/carpet cleaning if it still has any residual odour.

Next time put the caps on the gas cans. I've had gas cans fly around in the back of my truck and they never spill fuel.

Turn car heat/defrost on hottest setting and high fan with recirculation off, crack 1 rear window ~1/4" open, leave car idling for 4-10 hours as needed. 30 years ago, I got a cigar smoker's reek out of a month-long rental car that way in about a day.

Dump diesel all over the gas soaked area and you will no longer notice the gas at all
