Immigration/Migrant Worker Reform

So as I understand it, a migrant worker must show proof of employment or proof that they will be hired once they have a green card.

Why is that the case?

Wouldn't it be easier to issue a .gov type ID with a provisional 60 day pass/Green Card so the migrant could get a job and then log into a website with his ID number and input his employment info?

This would alleviate people illegally crossing the border and help keep these people's ID's in line?

What am I missing??

They wont go to any .gov agency or website to get said I.D. They are sneaking in under our radar and then working illegally. No taxes paid, and no way for the .gov to know itf they are here or not.

the border issue needs to be all in war to stop the traffic or just open the doors and forget about it. this half and half political game is just that, a game.

The way I hear it used to work was the farmer would get the number of permits he needed, then would go to the border hire the workers, then at the end of the job take them back.

What delusional world do you live in? 90% of the people coming in now are lying through their teeth about false asylum claims and then disappearing. Theyre given every opportunity to stay legally but they choose just disappear and have anchor babies.

On another note why do we need migrant workers? We have enough unskilled labor in this country on welfare to pick all the goddamn crops we could ever need. Its a simple solution. End welfare except for the disabled. Fire the same socio group enablers in the public offices that rubber stamp Soansos welfare application so she can waddle her fat ass back out to her Caddy Exalade or walk her pregnant 5 different baby daddy having ass out to her clapped out saturn and go live on the dole or sell her gubiment check for pennies on the dollar. Then have the farmers run buses out to their farms. Some of them can watch kids while the other pick. You know if its ok to force migrant workers to live in picker camps its ok to make lazy bastards do it to.

The leeches will learn soon enough, if you want to eat you gotta work. If you dont want to work the fields you better get skills for something else. If theyre gonna resort to robbing and stealing then they need to be put down like dogs.

You understand wrong, or at least don't understand what a green card is.

Migrant workers MAY be eligible for a temporary work VISA (need to have an offer of employment before applying). This applies to short term temporary workers, whether picking crops (Mexicans mostly) or staffing ski resorts for a season (Aussies, Kiwis, Canucks). These Visa's vary from 6 - 9 months typically. Must be in an industry with known shortages of workers - farming, hospitality etc

IF there is a known shortage of workers within a certain sector, companies can apply to fill those positions with foreign workers on VISA's. This is used in industries like tech, or medical. Known and proven shortage of workers in that sector is a requirement, but eases the process a lot. Typically H1, H2 type Visa's - and they will be valid for a definite period of time - from 1 year to 5 years is typical

A company can offer a job to a foreigner, but if that sector does not have a known shortage, the process to get a VISA is a lot longer and harder. Have to advertise the position (typically listed in a Federal register), and can only offer the job to a foreigner if NO QUALIFIED US citizens apply.

A Green Card, or Resident Alien card is a further step along in the process. Can be obtained by marrying a US citizen, or by applying for a green card once you have temporary worker status. Certain Visa status's are not eligible for applying for a green card. If you are a seasonal worker in agriculture or operating a chair lift over winter you cannot apply for a green card.

If you have a B type Visa, you cannot apply for a green card (mostly applies to foreign air or maritime crews)

If you have a work VISA, and the company offers you long term employment, you are eligible to apply for a Green Card, but must meet quite a list of additional requirements. IF the company terminates you, you lose your VISA. If you are successful in getting a green card (can take several years, and many thousands of $$$) and then get fired, you can technically still lose your green card, though highly unlikely

One of the requirements for a Green Card is that you have never broken any US law. So if you are a scumbag wetback, or an asylum seeker who has disappeared after release - YOU HAVE BROKEN THE LAW and will never be eligible for a green card.

Green Cards are valid for 10 years. Once you have held a Green Card for 5 years (3 if military) you can apply to become a citizen (or not)

ALL illegal immigration devalues the entire system, and spits in the face of those who come to this country legally and follow the procedures to get legal residency.

Here is a clue, fixing the immigration problem is not very hard. Neither political party wants to fix it because it gives them power and bring out their base. Any small group of us could come up with a reasonable plan and a compromise over a 1/2 rack.

Nothing will get fixed as long as it's a two party system vying for power among themselves. Its not about making america great again, it's about how much money and power the party's can get. We have been at the beginning of the end since Obama took office. There is no compromise with the Democratic party, it's their way or nothing Nancy. So nothing will happen at all but shit talking and false accusations.

Yes they pay taxes and NO they will never see any of that money at the end of the year or end of there working career.

To be honest, there is not really that much broken with the system. It works for those who OBEY the laws of this land

The system is broken because the .gov is too scared of the political fallout from ENFORCING THE EXISTING LAWS. Give credit where due, Obama sent tens of thousands of illegals "back to where they came from", and nary a peep out of the socialists. Now because Orange Man is doing the same, well ...........

Enforce the border like you gave a shit about the security of this nation. If Cubans, Brazilians, Nigerians, and others have figured out it is a cake walk to cross the border illegally, I would wager those that truly mean us harm have figured out the same.

Shoot invaders on sight, open season on any illegals - and the border crisis will disappear in days. We don't have the balls to enforce existing laws, so expect the migrant hordes to keep coming.

So fucking what? They are here ILLEGALLY, they knew the risks before setting off to the US.

Should those LEGAL residents who followed the LAWS of the US give even 1 shit about Pedro not getting a tax refund while sucking the welfare and state benefits dry.

Why don't you try that in Mexico and see how long before you end up in jail?

These are not "undocumented" as you use the liberal propaganda term, these are law breaking illegals who should have been shot on entry, or sent back to where they came from. Fuck them all

Walk into your local grocery, look around. 99.9% of the shit that comes from the US was picked and packed by illegals. Mericans don't work in the fields because `welfare`. We need some guest worker system, or eliminate welfare if we like to eat our own food, or just say fawkit and import all the fruits and veggies from Mexico.

Like or not the illegals are willing to work shit jobs for shit pay that Mericans just won't do unde the current socialist system that rewards being lazy and shitting out crotch fruit by the metric ton.

You are aware that there is a fully functioning guest worker program already in place right? Has been for decades. Works fine for the ski resorts, works fine for large ag here in CO

But it is much easier just to cross the border illegally, and then look for work, because there are almost ZERO consequences for crossing illegally, and there is almost ZERO enforcement of our current borders. Add in that there is very little consequence for hiring ILLEGALS (even though all new hires are required to be documented, 2 forms of ID, and proof of being legal to work in the US)

Enforce the existing laws, make examples of corporations and small business who hire ILLEGALS (fine and jail times are already prescribed punishment), and enforce the border and most of this takes care of itself

No disagreement from me on the welfare issue, but they are two separate issues and need to solved as such

1, ANYONE can go to the ER and get free medical. I have even been told to give a fake name and I won’t have to pay a thing!! I was told this by a homeless us citizen. Who DONT WORK AND DONT PAY ANY TAXES!!! and is ONLY a burden to our society.

2,fuck California. They got themselves into this mess. You think that undocumented workers only live in California 🙄🙄

Food stamps? Sorry you don’t qualify you make too much money. No matter who you are. They ALL WORK! and work damn hard!! Harder then the US citizens I seen who are on food stamps. I never seen a Latino Pay for groceries with food stamps. But I seen plenty of citizens do it who are working the system being lazy. Section 8 is GOVERNMENT HOUSING you really think they will use that?? Come on think before you believe all they hype being spread. And why bitch about ANYONE going to school trying to better themself. Really now??

Btw this sucks on a phone. Spelling and grammar errors can fuck off lol

Why dont they? you honestly believe that they are paying taxes? you can claim exempt at first hiring. they ship most of what they earn back to Mexico, and the owner/payer is too afraid to say anything because "undocumented" worker. Man I dont know what fantasy world you live in, but wake up and smell the coffee. My wife knew workers in Vegas. Good, hard working people. The one would need to go home for a weekend and would get "caught" by an Immigration Officer. He would get a free lunch and a ride back home (Mexico). Monday he would be back at work. Give me a fucking break. Pays taxes. Um yeah, right.

Do you actually know what tax exempt means? I've never spent a dollar in a store without a tax attached. I've never bought a gallon of fuel without a tax attached. Being tax exempt doesn't free you of UI, State and Local, in some cases, City and Transportation taxes.

This would alleviate people illegally crossing the border and help keep these people's ID's in line?

Wow. A lot. That 60 days would allow them to disappear into the U.S. So open borders. 100% zero borders. Wow.

I live in the real world. Not the made up one of rumors and hear say you believe in. I’m embedded deeply into the Latino culture here. Yes I know for a fact they all pay taxes. Taxes they will never see back. They send most of there money back to family living in Mexico because there love for family is much stronger then ours is. They live as cheap as they can do they have more money to send back home. And what the hell is wrong with that anyways? You telling me you wouldn’t send money to your family if you was in that position?! And they don’t just get sent to Mexico on a Monday. COME ON!!!! (What us government agency is that efficient) they get sent to a detention center (prison) and are held for ex amount of time. Before being processed. I won’t insult your intelligence if you don’t insult mine. I’m honestly trying to educate. Don’t hate the people risking all for the CHANCE at a better life. Hate the systems that binds them. Corrupt government on both sides of the border. THAT is the real problem. Many of the Latinos voluntarily pay taxes in the hopes that it will look good on them in good faith that they will get a better chance at staying. And NONE say life is easy here. Because of all the rules and regulations taking your money at everything you try and do. This is far from a free country. But a hell of a lot better then many others.

How does it benefit the people already in the US to have money leave the US? Why do we need this?

And how does an illegal pay income tax exactly?

How is the amazingly small amount of money leaving the US of any matter?? you really want to argue THAT point??? How much money is shipped out of the US by the wealthy trying to hide it so they DONT pay taxes on it??

and income tax comes right out of there paychecks. Just like you and I and the rest of everyone.

You're on point on the topic, nice. Personal experience, or you're a lawyer ?

I will say that getting a green card on your own, without marrying a US citizen, is not an easy task. At all.
