Ford 460 guys, help me be a cheapass...

95 Ford F250, No compression on one cyl, Torn down, find broken rings and a broken piston, cyl will be fine with light hone, Issue being I can only find a sealed power piston ($17) which has the "shallow" oil grove which requires I buy a full set of premium rings for $123. I rather buy the set of standard rings for $22 that could be used on the rest of the pistons to freshen it up. Anyone have a std stock piston sitting on shelf by chance?

If you want to be really cheap just drop the piston out of the oil pan, run a quick drill powered hone and shove a junkyard piston back in. It's a 460, it will be fine.

That's what I'm shooting for, only hoping I don't have to waste a day at the Picknpull pulling another engine out just for a piston. Hoping someone had one or a source for one.

Keep me informed on how this pans out. I've got a 70K mile 460 from a 97 that did the same thing. Had a wrecked 90 with 286K, swapped the old engine into the newer truck and its still running. I'd like to fix the broke piston one the same way, on the cheap re-ring re-bearing and stuff it an older pickup.

Ferd parts aren't cheap, about $300 worth of parts ordered from Rockauto to freshen up the engine, Going to go ahead and re-ringing all all the pistons and slap in a new set of bearings. only has 110k on it but looks like the previous owner was lax on oil changes. I couldn't even tell it was missing when I was driving it, just was pushing oil up into the air box.

Got the caliper out and checked the piston I pulled and it has the shallow metric rings already so the only choice was the expensive ring set.
