Major bummer on this one. Jessi was an amazing woman. I was super bummed when she left Extreme 4x4. Nothing hotter than a woman who knows her way around a whole host of vehicles, mechanics, welding, etc. Always followed her progress in the EMC and rooted for her. How is it an amazing person like Jessi gets taken but shitstains like American Jeeper continue to draw precious oxygen. It’s just not fair.

Jessi went out pushing the boundary of what's humanly possible.

Though unfortunate, that's a badass end to an admirable career.

Posts in this thread tell me she was also a genuinely good person.

We may wish she had more time, but not that she'd used it better.

RIP badass, RIP good person, RIP great inspiration.

I read an article that she left xtreme because a 500lb bandsaw fell on her and broke her back.... I enjoyed watching her on the various programs.

Through all of this I have realized that I may have to listen to CG's bitching and Screwey's nonsense for all of eternity in the afterlife. I'm not sure whether to lead a better or worse life. Anybody have any idea where those two went?

CG is eternally stuck in his driveway trying to get his 6.0 to start up so he can leave.

I do land speed racing on bikes.. It's generally a tuners sport and the driver's job is to go in a straightline...For powerful wheel driven cars/bikes on non paved surfaces the biggest issue is wheel spin even at over 100 MPH...Last time I looked the current wheel driven piston engine speed racord is about 460 mph...Chevy power of course ,lol. Fatal accidents are not common even for bikes going down at near 200 mph
Jet thrust cars are a whole different ball game.Insane power and speed potentional.. And much more risk...

They were discussing the sketchiness of the airframe being operated on the ground and controlled with rudder input, causing the tail to wash out. I can imagine just how hairy that can get in no time at all.

I suppose that was a bit vague. I cannot remember where I read it, but it was either here or an article linked from here. It was referring to Jessi using joystick controls and how jet cars of this type get a little crazy at speed when using the rudder.

I am at work otherwise I would figure out where that was.

@JR mentioned it earlier in this tread but i never saw any "discussion" beyond that. Thats why I was asking.

Ah yeah, that was probably it. It made pretty good sense. Thinking about the airframe design and rudder input/reaction in an airplane, it definitely would scoot the ass end over a bit....or more. I could see how, in a correction attempt on land, it could cause an oscillation leading to the instability of the vehicle. 400mph death wobble. Scary shit

One of my wife's surfing mentors was good friends with Jessi. She posted this on her facebook and I thought it was worth sharing:

Quote:
This is Combs Jessi and her mom last year before she beat her own record in the rocket car by a solid 100 mph faster. I can imagine how devastated her mama must feel. My mom lost a daughter, too.
•••
I talked to my mom for a while yesterday. From one extreme athlete’s take on another, she said, “Marion, some people just have to GO. They have to. There’s no tempering anything. No stepping out of the ring. I used to be like that...maybe because somewhere inside me I knew you guys were coming through (us, her children) and I needed to do all I could before I would feel compelled to temper myself. Jessi made her choices.” Her candid words bring me comfort. This photo of this joyous depth full hug brings me a measure of comfort.
•••
I’m endeavoring to reconcile how her work here was finished. I choose to believe we’re here on the planet for as long as we have lessons to learn and once we get them, we’re done with this current physical manifestation of ourselves. I like to think of myself as a fast learner. I’m thrown by how young and inexperienced I feel all of a sudden.
•••
Jessi and I are 80s babies. How can she be done already?! When I was 18 I couldn’t fathom 21. When I was 21 I couldn’t see myself making it to 25. At 25, I was certain my life was done by 36. I’m 39 and now I look down the stretch of what can come and life seems infinite...except it isn’t, because Jessi was a pea in the pod with me and now...she’s out.
•••
I thought I made Death into a friend, but I’m at odds. I’m still here because I have more to learn.

Quoted for truth. I hope someone can say that about me when I go.

From Camos Wife.

"Blue Eyes of Steel

Like the wind and sea her limits no bound
In this world with much judgment her own way she found

She has giant wings of sort, she could carry you on.
Those same wings now taking her far and beyond

Wake each day she’d say with the desire for more
If your not making memories, what’s life really for?

Living life to the fullest doing speed’s unheard of,
its still her giggle I swear I hear coming from above

Keep a piece of her with you, reflect and hold tight
Love big, be kind ...be fearless just like her light

Give your best, give your all...push your limits after a fall.
Get up try again, be rad each day.. feel her take your hand to pave your way.

It was her joy for life and infectious smile sending tears of shock to fall
Though her time here was short, she inspired us all

Fly high sweet angel as fast as you can
Know each one and all of us are your biggest fan

HL"

I vaguely remember the article mentioning similar concerns. Breedlove's Shell car had similar issues (not rudder steered, but straight line stability). A lot of uncharted territory north of 400mph. Not just aerodynamics. I was at Bonneville when the JCB guys broke the diesel record and can attest to some of the issues they faced at 350mph. A lot of the crew on that project had worked with Noble and Green on the Thrust cars, probably some of the smartest minds in LSR and they were tackling new issues daily.
