Ferrari 328, mid engine. V8. Benefit is engine/trans is one unit, and fairly compact... downside is its a dog and doesn't make much power.

5 cyl Audi quattro turbo drive line would be sweet in this car.

5 bangers sound rad.

This. Flat plane crank sounds awesome. You can get a beater Mondial or 308 or 328 for cheap and then part out the remaining parts.

What did the Manta kit car use again? Midship SBC with a Super T10 and the Corvair rear end?

Had a 65. Believe it or not they handle great with some weight up front and benefit greatly from modern shocks and tires. I’d say def keep it rear engine with some kind of nasty 6 cylinder. Why not go Porsche engine? Lots around and kinda keeps with the theme of the car. Good luck, I’m looking for a 69 myself.

Mid-engine. Boosted Acura 3.0 V6. Heat and noise can be handled. It will be a NSX beater with the right suspension. Should be 2500lbs or less.
