How about a dare to be weird option of a short stroke small displacement high winding V8.
It's possible to build a short stroke 231 cubic inch small block Chevy if you use a 283 crankshaft with a 3.00" stroke(shortest stock stroke) and put it in a large journal 267 block with a bore of 3.5"(smallest stock bore) netting you the theoretical 231 cubic inches of small block Chevy fury. Although nowadays unless you have the parts laying around this build can become pretty spendy real quick like,

Or build up one of those short stroke L99 4.3l LT1's from the mid-late 90's Caprice, they're the same as the LT1's of that era they with the reverse flow cooling and the sequential fuel injection etc, but the L99 has a smaller bore and smaller stroke and had 220-240hp stock if memory serves.

What about Aluminum LS based V-6 with a Turbo Mid or Rear Engine? Regardless of Direction I'm along for the ride.

So the other thing is that this is the "wife's" car. She don't do manuals so it will probably get an auto, which is fine with me.

A rear mounted 911 tiptronic mated to an LS would be relatively economical. The Porsche transaxle is heavy at over 300#, but will handle the power and spins the correct direction. I could push the assembly forward, like i did with the VW, to make more room and have a little better weight transfer.

I like mid engine but it's just hotter, louder and more cramped.

That kills the mid engine for me.

Did they put AC in those? I'm not having anything with a top and no AC

The car didn't come with seat belts. I don't think it ever did, which is nice because if you're texting and drop the phone on the passenger side, you can just slide over reach down and look for the phone without even slowing down.

Yea, but it's not safe because it doesn't have 400 horses.

I gotta go with the Doc here. Lots of guys on glamisdunes.com run turbo honda/acuras instead of an LS. Similar power to the LS and if you blow it up you throw in another $500 junkyard motor.

Late 60's-early 70's Cadillac or Toronado front drive puts the engine right between the wheels. Basically a Turbo 400 with a chain drive between the converter and gears. Caddy(500) or BOP engine will bolt in, a Chevy would need an adapter.

Pretty certain the 327 Vigilante is BOP. That would make for a stuper-oddballs swap.

SHO V8?

4.6 Northstar with an Olds Aurora transaxle?

I'd do a VR6 with a 6266, but I'm probably the odd man out here. Man, I love me a VR6.

Lancia Delta S4? There's gotta be someone around parting one of those out.

I saw one with a Toronado front wheel drive in the late 70s that was actually pretty cool. Pretty snug but it fit.

5 sp. tiptronic out of a late '90s 911 996. to be had for <$2k.
Someone must make a stand alone harness for it.

I even priced the Porsche 3.6l motors. Forget, way too pricey.

At first, I was thinking front engine with a conventional auto.
Then, I figured I could make a mid engine behave.
Now, I'm leaning towards a rear engine. That would be a Porsche Tip trans mated to a LS3 and moved forward 4". It's definitely the least invasive.
It's not going to be a drag or track car, just a fun, comfortable cruiser that even the wife can drive.
