I cofounded Texas Veterans Outdoors. We provide community and camaraderie for veterans and their families through participation in outdoor activities and other social events. All volunteer run; 100% of donations go towards the veteran, designated 501c3. Happy to provide more details.

Nice!

Fisher House kicks ass. Retired military can use them as well. Clutch when you're in a hospital or clinic for a week or longer. Great organization to deal with as well.

I'm on the board of a charity. If I wasn't, I'd probably go with the 2A Foundation.

Compared to some of these other examples, the Wounded Warrior Project sounds like a saint. After all, they do use more than half of the donations received to help wounded US veterans be able to get back on their feet. That’s pretty good, right?

Another $6 million was spent on “occupation costs.

We’re talking about soldiers and their families who have literally sacrificed life and limb to protect the people who are running this charity. Soldiers who faced down terrorists, insurgents, and radicals who tried to blow them up with IEDs. So sure – they spend over $100 million per year on veterans. They’re also spending that much on themselves.

Does that make this charity a scam? If you have to look at the tax documents to see what money is being spent on because the organization isn’t fully forthright, then the definition may certainly fit.
If you delve into it further, you’ll find the “occupation costs” are what WWP spends suing other veterans’ organisations in order to “protect their brand”.

Somewhere on this site a few years ago I broke it down in a thread after someone asked about WWP.

Mine goes to Tap Cancer Out, a jiu jitsu based charity that raises funds via tournaments (competitors can either pay an entry fee OR raise money to compete). Their passthrough rate is 85%. Current charity is Alex's Lemonade Stand. In the past they've done St. Baldrick's, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
