Is Trump Killing CARB?

Trump administration revokes California’s authority to set auto mileage standards

In a move President Trump said will reduce the prices of cars but will also anger environmental groups, the White House will revoke California's authority to set fuel economy standards.

IEATRKS84 09-18-2019 09:34 AM

good. CARB standards are fucking ridiculous

D_JEEPER 09-18-2019 09:38 AM

California: YOU'RE KILLING THE ENVIRONMENT YOU NAZI SCUM!

Also California: *people shitting in the gutters and shooting up in the streets, massive amounts of smog*

Filthy McChevy 09-18-2019 09:46 AM

That's some in depth reporting there.

Apparently I should have waited 5 minutes for the page to load.

Yeah. Looking for more.

I was aware California had its own emission standards, but not fuel economy.

This is better-

Well well well.. good to hear, but California is still a shithole. I lived there for the first 32 years of my life, and I will never go back.

In an argument on FB about this. (as much as you can bee in an "argument" with a lefty)

It's all a money grab out there by CA.gov that spends money poorly.

You have a high emissions vehicle, you pay extra to drive it. Same amount of emissions, they just cost more money. You have an old vehicle that's CARB exempt, you pay extra to register it, same emissions, just cost more money. I'd argue that a piece of the purchase price of every car goes into the stupid research car companies have to do to be able to sell a car in Cali.

We have emissions testing here in MD too. It's horribly frustrating and again, just a money grab. $14 to have your shit tested, if it passes you're good for 2.5 years. If it fails, you have 180 days to fix it and another $14 to test it. If it fails again and you pay to test it. You show receipts for the work you did or parts you bought, if they add up to $150 you get to pay for an exemption and you drive around pumping smog. No reduction in smog. It's all a fucking joke.

Cash for clunkers did more for emissions than anything else. It ruined the cheap car fleet in the country but all those smog pumpers are off the road at least...

SDCJ thinks you're a coward for leaving. You should be insufferable like him.

gt1guy 09-18-2019 10:26 AM

All you have to do is take a look at the trucks rolling across the border from Mexico into Cali to see how much the state really gives a shit about pollution.

Or the container ships at Long Beach Harbor.

Johann 09-18-2019 10:39 AM

It was stupid to have different standard for 1 out of 50 States. Extra expense and trouble all around.

Its not like there is a magic wall around California that keeps the rest of the worlds environment out of it.

Unknown as the details aren't there. I'd welcome the demise of CARB.

Look what your Governor commented:

Fact is, CA's outperforming the federal government:
Running record surpluses while Trump runs record deficits. Meeting our climate goals while expanding our economy.

We're the progressive answer to a transgressive President -- and it's driving him mad.

Well I just left there YESTERDAY and even my dog was ready to leave! He wanted to go HOME! :flipoff2:

Provience 09-18-2019 10:59 AM

for decades we had 2 emission standards in this country without issue. CA and FED compliant.

CARB, Auto Makers, and the previous admin EPA decided CARB should set the national standard. this trump move simply rescinds that. auto makers can still build everything to carb std if they want.

this is a positive move allowing people not in high impact emmissions areas the option of lower cost/regulation compliance vehicles

There actually kind of is....sort of. The mountains east of the LA basin keep all the smog from the LA basin in the LA basin. Add in 20-30 million people and cars and you have a gas chamber that would make the Nazi's proud.

But that's LA's problem, not the rest of the countries. If they don't like breathing exhaust, don't live in a bowl.

You should see them after they get a few miles offshore and switch to bunker crude.

Yep, yellow haze lingers for an hour or so depending on wind
