Rough guess... probably 8-10. I have always had a dog in my life, not always “my dog”, but in my life for sure

Now if you’re going to ask how many I had in Korea... I don’t want to know

One, a shetland sheepdog, that lived 14 years before going deaf and blind. That is probably the last one too. Dogs are tough to let go.

7 passed, 2 kicking it now.

5 died of natural causes. youngest at 8, oldest at 14. one ran off after being scared by fireworks, either got dognapped or munched, 1 pos rescue dog I left at the pound after it got picked up after being on the loose for 2 weeks in a town 90 miles away with my other dog that would run off with it. Another time before that I had to camp above treeline for several nights because the same dog ran off and my lab followed it as usual. After a week they finally came back to a bucket of water (that froze overnight every night) and a blanket I left out for them. It was a Brittany Spaniel that also hit porcupines 7 times in 3 months, and the lab would always get a few quills too. 4 I've had from 8 week old puppyhood, the others were handoffs.

1 Pom/Terrier mix puppy that we returned to the breeder after a week because it turned out to have serious digestive health issues and I was afraid my toddler would wind up killing it by feeding it.

2 beagles. First one made it to 13, current one is 4

Probably around 20 during my lifetime. Sharon and I have 7 right now, with an additional 2 that belong to the daughter and granddaughter.

My brother and I was coming back from wheeling Sunday and a truck went by with a dog in a crate in the bed. He stated that was bullshit because the dog had feelings. I said "you have a husky that you keep inside 90% of the time and when it does get out it has a fenced in city lot to roam. I think that's bullshit".

I agree as far as the Husky goes. Those things need to run. My little sister had one in Florida (why) that was kept in a small fenced yard. She wound up giving it away because it was so bored it was destructive. There are some dogs that need a lot of space - but they would still live in the house at my house.

Parents had plenty of dogs while I was growing up, over a dozen. Mostly golden retrievers with a few mutts thrown in here and there. Never had less than 3 dogs at a time. I became attached to one of them as a small child. After he passed, I didn't really care for any of the other dogs and never really bonded with another one.

Have not had a single pet as an adult. At this point, if the animal isn't serving a purpose for me, I see no reason to have it in my life. Also found out after moving out of my folks house that I am allergic to dogs/cats, so there is that. I would consider an outside dog or outside cat once I buy some land and get some animals.
