Dealer Scam?

Took the van in for service today. Normal stuff came up. They also tried for-

Front brakes. Seems reasonable as I知 always in stop and go traffic.
Engine airflow sensor needs carbon cleaned off. This was an issue w/ maf fords, could be plausible?
Carbon on injectors. how tf do they determine this without disassembling the fuel rail and pulling an injector? Seems like a scam.

According to the history they recommend efi service about 6,000 miles ago.

Van has 25,064 on it.

I've never done anything except add gas and change oil until at least 100k.

Sounds like the typical up sales/scams.

No idea. It痴 a vvti 3.5L v6.

Emissions crap on old fords. PCV in front of MAF. (No idea what the Toyota has). On a ford, a shot of carb cleaner saved the day.

Did they tell you how much was left on the brakes?

The rest is unnecessary for a modern vehicle unless its throwing codes.

It's a Ferd. It won't even make it to 100,000.

it shouldn't need any of that at 25k. Are the brakes making noise? Any codes? Mass Air Flow cleaner is about $6 for a can (like carb cleaner) but I consider it maintenance if you have running issues not, something preventative... could just as easily cause yourself an issue messing with it. The injector cleaner is a just an excuse to hook it to a expensive machine and charge you money.

Independent service garage mechanic here. Your (insert any model) Toyota doesn't need anything except an oil change at 25k miles. Not even brakes. This dealer is just trying to upsell and relieve your wallet of cash.

It all seems like a scam. Ask them for the thickness of the front pads. No way it needs rear.

That van is prolly spensive, maybe find a nice small shop for quality maintenance, save the stealership for warranty and recalls.

At 25k it doesn't need shit, well unless you drive like it's the indy 500 all the time

Now way they know if there is carbon on the injectors without pulling them, even then there is no factory recommendation to do that service as normal maintenance. A hate taking my stuff to the dealer even for warranty because they will BS me with things I know are lies.

got that "carbon on injector" crap in 95 on a Ford Ranger. Fell for it (was out of town, engine light, young...). Truck never ran the same. Skip that crap.

I may or may not work for a dealer. They use aftermarket conditioners/cleaners and get paid by the company for selling them. The aftermarket company that sells the cleaners/conditioners gives the dealer its own service intervals to sell their products at.

My Wife's 2015 Sienna AWD has been solid with the freebie dealer recommended 10k mile oil changes. She's at 40k now, and all I have personally done is new run flat tires (which is bullshit, but a rant for another day), and a couple air filters.

I hate the fawkin' thing (because minivan), but it actually runs well and the V6 is no slouch.

The dvd player for the rear screen has become sporadic, which is an annoyance for the kids, but other than that its been good.

Tell the dealer to fawk off with their intake service and go ring the thing out on a back road for a while!
