I've got a set of those Federals on my Mustang. Loud as fucking hell! Reasonably sticky. Not as good as an RE71 or something, but good for half the price. They need a bit of heat so they are better on track than they are for autocross. They typically run short and wide also.

Clean your damn basement.

It's a sea of shoes... i can't take it. and NONE of them are mine. i have like, 3 pairs total.

I figured i'd give them a try. i read they're loud. Still, for $330 bucks... what else is out there? especially with how hard up I am on this budget. But for 3k my miata will be:

1990 miata with 133k miles (pretty clean car) with a 1.6 diff and lsd
H&R coils
KYB AGX adjustables
Eibach sways
1.8 out of a 1999
Hard dog roll cage
reupholstered the seats
spoiler
15x8 xxr's with federal 595 rr's

i'm sure i'm forgetting stuff.

Just need to have a top gear style points system. Say each event is worth 50 points, but your penalized 25 points for each cylinder over 4, and 10 points for every "ls" (ls6)

In the end, it's for fun.

100% just for fun. most of us think the competition part of it is just hilarious.

That should be enough setup to have lots of fun. The only way you're going to find better tires for that price tag is to find something used. My buddy keeps trying to sell me his clean '99. Maybe I should buy it and join the fun.

Sounds good man. absolutely no rush. we have all winter to build these things. i'm going to get mine put together in the next month or two. enough to drive/run so that i can do snowcross with it.

why start with NB vs NA? I went NA so i could put antique tags on it lol.
I have two sets of race rubber. I moved them outside a couple of years ago. Really bad timing or you would have had some wicked rubber to run.

OP,

Since you are swapping 1.8 do you have access to the donor car? Is it another NA or an NB?

1.6 cars have smaller brakes, also 1.6 diff is weaker versus diff in 1.8 cars (talking NB here as it is bolt in swap).
I went Flyin Miata Vmaxx Classic route on coilovers with my car - didn't need full race stuff like 949 Racing coilovers.

On sway bar stick with the stock rear - get adjustable end links (like 949Racing stuff myself).
Some even run 1.25 Racing Beat for the front and disconnect the rear - supposedly gains a bit more travel/compliance out of rear end.

If you are going larger on the front sway bar, consider adding heavy duty sway bar support mount kit (I went with Naroh Motorsports on my car - pleased with the product). No worries about ripping it apart - sticky tires add a good bit grip to the car, in turn everything has to compensate

Enough from me, will keep an eye on this going forward...

That's a pretty wicked swap. My buddy that is/was president of the local autocross club put one in his NC turned exocet after his ex wife backed it into a wall. 217 to the rear tires n/a makes that go kart rip.

I bought it for $1,400. Threw a set of 15x8 wheels with 225 R spec tires on it.

I will be at Miata's on the gap this year but I have moved on to Exocets so I will be there with that next year.

I would love to follow along with this.

These rigs can flat boogie on a autocross track. I've watched them time and time again beat killer corvettes, mustang's and camaros that run the Optima events with 1/5 the power.

Why waste money on reupholstering the seats? Can't you find a decent sat cheaper than that? I got a mint set here I would donate but unless you are coming to this area for something that would not work out I guess.

I have run those Federal 595 RR's, I have a set on my Exo right now actually, I like them they perform good.

For the money they are the most impressive thing out.

I have a donor car but it's another NA6. It already had the 1.8 swapped into it (the 1.8 is out of a 99). I need to do the rpm switch for the variable intake runners since he didn't. But other than that everything should be here for the swap.

I have the smaller 1.6 diff but i have 2 of them both with the VLSD. which, FEEL like they're working lol. There's a 99 basketcase up the road for 300 bucks with a good 1.8, good trans, and good diff with the torsen and all the associated driveshaft/axles to make work in my NA... but man... that car is insanely rotten... I might still grab it though. we'll see.

Picked up this absolute turd yesterday for 300 bucks. has a good torsen 1.8 diff, a good 5 speed trans. 1 good motor and 1 bad motor. and a good top, bunch of decent parts etc. but too rotten to save

picking up this turd for 1100 bucks this week/weekend with a buddy. 1.8 car with good miles. has a hard dog cage too.

and after picking up the black/red one dropping a buddy off to pick this one up for 2300

that one's fully gutted, caged, seats, etc.
