Polaris Ranger Diesel

Have a 2014 Ranger Crew with the 904cc Yanmar diesel.

I bought it recently and found that the tach and hr meter aren't working. Also the gear indicator is goofed, where it only reads "H" when the shifter is all the way down in reverse.

I've asked around on the Ranger forums and it's gone no where. It just got back from the dealer where it was there over a month and they pretty much decided that it wasn't worth looking at... "oh well if you want it fixed, we can look at it again in 4-5 weeks... probably the computer"

Anyone have any experience on these? I'd guess that it's not getting a tach signal so it's not seeing that the engine is running?
Odd thing though is the info I've read said that 1 wd or 4wd won't work without seeing the engine running or the gear issue.

Pull

Meh, seems to work fine for my needs. Has a full cab and heater, so can use it year round and I've got plenty of diesel on hand. Only have a couple gas powered things.

I traded a set of guns for it, both guns I had got from other trades, one had about 6 trades to get to it

step one: find service manual
step two: RTFM.

Back on the transmission where the shifter lever and cable is, is a round plastic item with wires in it right behind it. It's probably came loose. That is the gear shift selector indicator. Tach and HR meter, that could get ugly. Just keep driving

All the gears work fine, just the readout doesn't say what gear until reverse and it says it's in high.

I sold my Jeep, wasn't using it much plus I rolled the money into buying equipment for the business. I worked my ass over the last 4-5 years to be where I decided I could afford a "toy". The guns were just holding a shelf down, had no meaning to me aside from had good value - hadn't even shot them. So figured what the heck.

Just worked out that it happened to be a Polaris. Could have been other flavors, I'm not fussy. The big cab is nice that I can load up camping gear and it not get wet or muddy. Plus room for the doggos.
And it's also handy for scouting logging jobs vs walking them, so there's that too.
Sold my trailer last year, but it fits on the back of several of the trucks I have.

Diesel is nice that it's good on fuel and bulletproof, though it is pretty slow. May end up turboing it this winter, it makes it about 37hp I think from 30.

We've had issues with wheel bearings, brakes, belts, alternator's, and thermostat going bad. T-stat was back ordered for 13 months. Brake calipers were back ordered 4 months and it took polaris another 3 months to ship to the dealer. Then took dealer 2 months to install.

I prefer the JD Gator's. We have one that is 4 years older than the ranger and 1/10 the amount of issues and zero issues getting parts. OUr new replacements will be JD of some sort.

No issue with the engine though. It pushes snow pretty well.

250hr oil change make sense on this or??

It only has like a .75 gallon oil pan from what i can find.

I have a similar sized Kubota and it holds 1.5 gallons.

As far as reading the manual... i would if i could locate one.

Polaris sucks. The ranger is marketed against the kabotas and gators but it basically just quad parts with a dump bed. Get an old rhino if you want semi sporty with a dump bed, get a kabota, deere, mule, whatever, if you want a pure utility rig.
