Am I out of touch?

I've been doing some shopping for my next project, trying to figure out a basic plan. Essentially I wanna build a simple and relatively traditional hot rod. Really I'm hunting a body with a title. Everything I'm finding is $3500 or more for what appears to be rusted out junk and most don't mention a title. Are 30s era ford's and chevys really that valuable?

Example (this is typical of what I'm finding):
https://easttexas.craigslist.org/pts...988294626.html

Its the same way with c10 and crewcab chevys.

In my head I figured around 1k max for a mostly solid body and a title. If triple that is considered a deal then I guess my hot rod daydreams are over before they started.

Stuff has gone through the roof lately. Your prices might be dated, but your not out of touch. I just giggle and shake my head with what some people want for their shitboxes lately...

$400 for my title and shell, but it is a 4door Pontiac

2 door? exact same year/make goes for about 5-10x as much

so if you want something cool or common? yeah, those stupid prices are what people are asking.

go uncommon and it comes down a bunch

Check out what some of these guys are starting with

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCaI...P6NNF78iit5-Xg

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCY1...8m9ZoRpd7rgQCg

Unless you want to spend hours fixing rusty sheet metal that one looks pretty good for the price

Hasn't it been that way for a long time? I thought that was why people were willing to buy fiberglass cars.

well I think 30 years ago, in 1970, they were a bunch more reasonably priced.

I don't know what has happened the last 30 years, but significantly more than just the late 70's inflation

News flash. 1970 was 50 years ago, old timer.

I don't mind fixing some rustiness. I watched the killbillet documentary where they built a rod in 17 hrs. That inspired me to see if I could build a car in a week. Retarded, I know, but it sounded like a fun vacation for me next year. And yes that means it'd probably be considered a rat rod but not the over the top cartoon shit. Just a fun toy with not much concern for paint, all function. Similar to the Ford in my signature but a hot rod.

Theres a guy who has a few acres of classics in the valley. Lot's of everything.

He's got 3, 57 bel air's that have been just sitting for the 2 decades I've been here. I stopped and asked about an old 2 tone blue and white one he had and was floored when he told me what he wanted.

thanks, i'll be happy when it moves on it's own

I just checked craigslist all over, yup basically nothing at a reasonable price. there is a place next to the highway out here that has a HUGE amount of pre-1950 cars, but I don't think they list any of it online.

I guess check facebook or maybe the newspaper will make a comeback. $5 ad fee for cars on craigslist has not made things better
