That appears to be a working rifle. Hand sweat has removed and patinaed the magazine plate brown. Does not appear to have a gas pressure relief hole. Might indicate a really small carriage like the .22 Hornet.

For a model 70 the serial number search says 1941. Its caliber marks may be under the barrel and you will have to take the stock off to see it.

Yes. Looks like it. Pop the stock off and see what it actually is.

As soon as I got it I took it apart looking for a way to Identify it. It wasnít complicated but I may have put it back together incorrectly. My friend and I looked at it and were fairly certain it was out like that when I got it. I donít have any.220 swift to try to load and I donít think that is the best approach. For now Iíll just hang on to it.

There's no markings on the receiver that's covered by the stock?

A gunsmith can make a chamber cast then determine the caliber. Mine is also custom but the smith that re chanbred also re stamped the caliber on the barrel.

A lot of stuff I found going through my grandpa's leftovers just made me wish for another week with him.
He loved explaining all the things he'd made. I know one of the boxes is a u-joint cap puller for the bolted type joints, I just can not figure out how all the stick-welded together and hand filed bits go together
