I bought mine a couple $20 crawlers off Amazon, one for me, or a friend. If they get destroyed, I'll buy more of the same and have spares

My son got a Redcat 1/16 Everest a few years ago. It is slow but fun and now my 5 year older daughter likes it. 5 and under super slow is fine. They don't make that size Everest anymore but it looks like Redcat has a few other models in the $100 range. I bet they would be really nice for the kids. We did replace 1 servo, it was nice to be able to get normal RC parts for it.

The offbrand RC cars he had before that broke went right in the garbage.

My son now 7 and daughter 10 both got Latrax Prerunners for Christmas. They are pretty awesome. Can run at 1/2 speed indoors and outdoors full speed is fast enough to break A arms and other shit on impact. For $120 those cars are really cool too.

I was that dad that had to test his kids RC car December 23rd. I needed to make sure it worked great for Christmas. I shattered an A arm and made an emergency trip to the local RC store on Christmas eve. As I did that I wondered how many dads were in the exact same predicament.

Mostly because it looks cool. Space isnt really an issue

This is the one I was looking at

I'll vouch for the Nightcrawler. Put a lot of miles and was bombproof. Eventually nuked the stock steering servo (plastic geared), easy cheap fix to upgrade. Those worm gear axles are literally indestructible.

it is a mistake to give a 2 year old a large scale RC. it will be broken.

it's also a mistake to buy a brand that does not have an actual importer that's established and keeps parts inventory.
I've played the cheap chinese rc car game, and you'll not be happy when nitrorcx doesn't have parts in stock for months because they're waiting on a container, so you have to order from ebay or seomthing and it ships from china.

stick with a name brand with US based parts inventory from a reputable dealer.
redcat is as bargain basement as I would go.

you can always order redcat parts from tower hobbies and have them in a few days.
