Well today I found out the best way to change the joints on my heavyhauler. Hook up to a immovable object put on 4 sets of tire chains and drop it in LowLow. The loader that was helping push spunout so the truck took 100% of the load. Broke 3 U joints and a tranny yoke. Thank the lord none of the shafts got bent just ujoint carnage. I cannot even blame anyone else but me

At least it was still hooked to the breaker, the jacks can pick the truck up 1-1.5' feet so it's easy to get underneath to fix.

Nice!

Saw a broken U-joint cross on the shelf at the local truck parts place, cross had two trunnions snapped off, bearing caps the size of a coke can.

I just want to know what the fuck someone was thinking and what their ultimate vision was when they started a project like that. Because surely to hell THAT wasn't what they had in mind.

well, drop it on a newer chassis, make it into a panel truck and it could be a pretty neat sleeper cab

Yep
When I was a teenager I was riding with my brother in his 76 Buick Regal doing 80+
We slowed down and turned off onto a dirt road and the ball joints snapped

Or death wobble, in my case always under 30MPH.

The first time I experienced DW, I almost crapped my pants.

On the balljoint thing, it kind of makes some sense. A rod end probably sees higher loads while turning at a parking lot than doing 80 on the highway.

It’s not the trucks fault that GM used leftover Cavalier steering and suspense components to build their trucks.
