Russian WWII battlefield finds...lotsa pictures

Thought you all might find this interesting...taken from another board I frequent. There are these Russian guys who go out and metal detect WWII battlefields. This is one of the cooler finds but they have hundreds of weapons, ammo, explosives...even many bodies. They work with a couple of organizations to identify and return the remains to the families.

Supposedly one of the guys who does much of the digging is an ex Russian EOD guy.

I bought a German WWII watch from a Digger. There is something about that sticky frozen mud that keeps things in awesome shape.

I got rid of the watch though. It seems to have been attached to a rotted arm for the time it was buried. No thanks.

Awesome pics. I love seeing stuff left from old wars. Recently been doing a lot of research on Führerbunker trying to see if there are any good pics of the interior floating around...so far I keep coming up empty handed, other than a short video clip made by some Russians before it was destroyed.

Wow!

My Dad was DoD working on the F104 in Germany. As a small kid we hiked around the Rhein Valley. Old pill boxes with tunnels were great stuff.
My older brothers scored with helmets, knifes, gas mask. Think of being a kid and having a fortified fort in your back yard. Kid Heaven.

So in class one of my classmates brought in a nice toy... German hand grenade! Yes, a live one! We have a safety discussion after that.

cool pics. Would like to see more.

I found a grenade on a job site one day and liked to shit myself. After further review the grenade had it's core removed and was harmless. It was in great shape and was fun to use to scare the shit out of people at the office.

It's surprising how quickly earth builds up. It could also be attributed to some of the items having been in entrenchments or similar earth works. neat stuff. Bullets don't bother me, but the explosive stuff would give me the heebiegeebies.
