Cabela's goes ABOVE AND BEYOND!

Here is the .PDF of the letter, thank you to 98blacktj and WWW.SBWinVPS.COM for hosting!

Click here for a .PDF of Cabela's official statement on Peter Metcalf and H.R. 1925, the "the Red Rock Wilderness Act of 2009"

Quote:
Hey Vinny,

I've attached a copy of our statement on letterhead. You're welcome to use it as you see fit, including distributing it to other concerned OHV enthusiasts so they can send it to their elected officials.

I'll also send you a hardcopy via snail mail.

Hopefully Cabela's can work with other organizations in the future to protect public land access for everyone who enjoys the outdoors.

David Draper
Outdoor Communications
Cabela's Inc.

Now the meat of the issue, the letter, on letterhead. The quote below is NOT the one you want to forward to your congress critters. Print out the the .pdf, in color if possible for letters. Right click and "save as" if you want to attach it to an email to your elected officials.
I plan to both email the .pdf and snail mail hard copies to my elected officials, i hope you will too. stamps are cheap!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

David Draper, 800-331-3454

Statement regarding H.R. 1925

SIDNEY, Neb. – Despite rumors to the contrary, Cabela’s does not support H.R. 1925, or any legislation that would restrict access to public lands and responsible enjoyment of the outdoors. Peter Metcalf does not speak for Cabela’s and it’s unfortunate he claimed to do so in his recent testimony.

As a retailer focused on the outdoors and outdoor sports, it’s our policy to support the organizations that protect our outdoor heritage. This support includes advocacy groups like Tread Lightly, which states as its mission “to proactively protect recreation access and opportunities in the outdoors.” We provide backing for these and other organizations to ensure protection of the pastimes our customers – and we – enjoy.

Because of customers’ concerns regarding H.R. 1925, we’ve been in contact with Tread Lightly and other OHV organizations. We’ve also been in contact with Frank Hugelmeyer, President and CEO of the Outdoor Industry Association, who has assured me the OIA has not taken a position on H.R. 1925. In a released statement, Mr. Hugelmeyer stated “…recent testimony of Peter Metcalf were his own statements and not OIA board approved.”

It’s unfortunate Mr. Metcalf took it upon himself to imply Cabela’s support of H.R. 1925. We do our best to stay out of politics as much as possible and stick to what we do best, offering our customers great products at great values, backed with a commitment to customer service.

That's right, Cabela's stepped up to assure us they support of our hobby. Please be sure anyone who was upset with Cabela's over Peter Metcalf's comments sees this letter! also be sure your elected officials see this letter!

Also take note that Metcalf IS NOT an employee of Cabela's. He is a board member of the OIA. Metcalf lied to congress about who he was speaking on behalf of, Cabela's obviously heard our voices and is letting the world know that Metcalf does not represent their views.

So has Mr Metcalf been fired for taking liberties with the companies name?

1) That takes time.
2) That is not up to Cabela's. The only thing Cabelas can do is drop their membership in protest. As of right now, there is no reasonable reason for them to do so.

Now, Coleman on the other hand... They hold a board member seat. One would think they could get the "vote Metcalf off the island" ball rolling.

Ok I just had to ask because I thought Cabelas had a board seat.

Douche McMetcalf is not an EMPLOYEE of Cablela's. How would they fire him?

I think you are wondering if he was thrown of the board of the OIA, but that doesn't have anything to do with THIS thread.

Metcalf is not employed by Cabela's. Metcalf is a part of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA). After my email exchange with the president of the OIA last week i'm fairly convinced they will take some sort of action, but to the best of my knowledge they have not yet.

I am glad, because I send Cabelas hundreds of $ each year. I would hate to have to find alternate suppliers.

Thank you Cabela's.

Definitely a move in the right direction. It will take a lot to un-do the damage that this Metcalf clown has done, but Cabela's is doing their part.

Thank you again, Cabela's.

Exactly. I was fearing huge disappointment in what is the greatest "toy store" of all times.

This solidifies my interest in buying from Cabela's.

I'm glad that they've stepped up to right a wrong.

FWIW I got a reply on facebook from Colemans a few minutes ago.

The Coleman Company, Inc. is neutral on HR 1925.

Last week, a Outdoor Industry Association (OIA) board member testified before a House committee in support of HR 1925 and indicated he was speaking for OIA and major companies such as Coleman. In fact, he does not speak for Coleman.

Coleman is a member of OIA. Please be aware that OIA has not taken a position of support of this bill and is neutral on the matter, as stated by OIA President and CEO Frank Hugelmeyer. ...

Coleman makes outdoor products for multiple uses by its many and varied customers. The company supports access to public lands for a variety of responsible recreational use.
