Would have been fun to draft something up for that.

exactly.

of course, I'm assuming zombies are incapable of swimming, and if they were getting up the side of a hull to get in.

Although, a cargo or cruise ship would be a good choice too, just keep it anchored off shore a little.

I forget the movie. They were on an island of land, separated by rivers. The bridge was well guarded. One zombie hits on the fact they don't breath, and walks to the other shore. Didn't need to swim or float.

There was a high rise with lights and they sent raiding parties out to get food and whatnot. I think the story was following one of the raiding party guys.

Cool, looks like that is the one I was thinking of.

Cruise ship is interesting. Generators, food stores, lots of zombies to clear out first. But if you can't move it, it seems like you'd have to have a clever way to get on and off the ship. Perhaps as simple as a hatchway on the seaward side that you can get to by boat or jetski.

Even if they were to pile into the water between the doc and boat, it would be a long time before the pile would be high enough for them to climb over the rail.

Great, now I'm thinking about the siege of Masada.

The nice thing about the barge method is you can move into fresh water and will never run out of drinking water....

I dont understand #1 at all. The fact that part of its design (not sure of its purpose) relies on the dumbass idea that zombies sleep during the day should eliminate it from the competition. Everbody knows zombies dont sleep.

I wouldn't want to drink water that had zombie corpses piled up in it.

Somehow, I don't think folks like you will have to worry about that.

You could use the silo part as a well to pile the bodies into and then make your Zombie Bio-diesel to fuel your vehicles and generator!

I think the mighty members of Pirate 4x4 could come up with much better solutions than that website, maybe not as artistic, but definitely more capable designs.

For those of you not familiar with zombie attacks, you'd better bone up, 2012 is on its way!

#1 is weak, although it says temporary.

#2-Fuck a tugboat, and the Mississippi. Use a Iowa class destroyer and cruise the coastline of north and south America. Still use barges, but now you can have bigger barges and one or 2 more. .50 cals are nice, and I would keep them but I would find the goal keeper Gatling gun systems from today's aircraft carriers and put one fore and aft, on 50 ft' conning towers. A crane is a good idea, and should be kept, but made bigger. Radar and detection electronics are a must. GPS *might* still work, so grab one to use just in case.

On the second barge, I would not use a zig zag pattern for the living quarters. I would use the military's con-ex boxes, as they have been designed for multiple uses. I would position them 3 or 4 wide, and 5 or 6 long, depending on room. Solar is a must, and water collection would be required as well.I would enclose the entire barge in re-bar, not cyclone fence. Water can enter for collection, there would be adequate openings to fire out of, and the re-bar would be sufficient to keep out the zombies. I would use the inside of the barge to store water.

On the third barge the idea is sound, I would use 2 barges for food production, and also use islands that I come across in my travels to plant food on and come back and collect it when it is ready. I would cover these barges with re-bar as well. Same reasons.

The fuel production barge is a neat idea, but you could also snag an oil tanker to either position in an ideal location, or it would tag along with the rest of your fleet.

Some people say zombies could cross to another island under water, but I think you would be safe on a boat because although the zombies might be UNDER you, once there, I doubt they could swim upwards.

#3- I odnt know what that is supposed to be. Some kind of pirate treasure stronghold turned zombie defense area, I guess. Reminds me of this. http://www.oakislandtreasure.co.uk/

#4- Is this a mall? It's the worst diagram of the 4.

Awesome. A friend of mine put this together (one of the entries is his). He messaged me a little while ago telling me how its spread all over the web and then I come here and see this.

I voted for #2 btw.

As for entry #2 intentionally bringing zombies into your 'safe' area just sounds like an accident waiting to happen. Either by contamination or crawler getting lose on the boat.

If the zombies are from 28 days 'rage' zombies then they are still human which adds the probability that they could swim.

There is also the likely hood of encountering floaters, log jams and debris fields, and infected boats.

it's also probable that all zeds can climb ropes from mooring lines and anchors based on the abilities of crawlers.

Bridges and other overpasses would also be an issue as the zombies could fall onto the boats

All this makes my idea of using a destroyer more feasible. 9 cannons allow you to blow shit up. Also, The Walking Dead establishes that zombies cannot climb.

On land, being in a pack, and in mob mode.

TWD also establishes that zombies can pull them selves up by being on the tank. To further Dawn of the Dead (2004) establishes crawlers could hand over hand for a limited period as seen in garage .

In terms of safety you would have to assume the zombies can physically do everything a normal human could do, and be relentless about doing it.
