1968 1300C what have I done ?

I just agreed to buy a 1968 International 1300C 4x4 pickup. It's been sitting for awhile, and it looks to be rust free. what 4 speed trans & transfer case should it have ? Axles ? Are they shitty ? Any way to upgrade brakes ? I have some experience with 4 cylinder Scouts, But never full size International pickups. I assume it has a 345, but won't know until I pick it up in a week or two. I kind of want to use it for an emergency fire truck in the summer with a slip tank, and a chained up spare pickup with lockers f/r in the winter, but that might just be a dream.

It actually is ! Well, as rust free as an International can be anyway.... it has 4517 miles and was stored in a fire station in dry eastern Washington. Can't get much rust in less than 100 miles a year.

Just got it home, pretty damn good old pickup !

70 front and rear with 4.88s I bet.

4spd would be a T-98 granny low but 1st is non-syncro.

Axles will be the big 6 lug, and closed knuckle. Front axle should be a FA-10 and Rear should be RA-10 both corp IH. And deep gears most likely as mentioned my have rear trac or power lock already, doubt front has one. TC should be NP 202.

But look for the paper LST behind glove box if that low miles will still be there. It will list axles and what is what on the truck.

Also axles aren't worth using IMO , "odd" lug pattern, hard to find drums (not that you need any now but will). I would swap to GM 1 tons, bolt in get WAY better cheap brakes and common 8 lug wheels.

Awesome truck. My uncle had one out on the ranch in early-mid 70s. Pretty good truck. Was pretty cool IMHO.

Post some photos!
