I haven't had a spare second to call anyone today... maybe I'll get a chance to try tomorrow. If not, I might just park it at the Tahoe trailhead and drive around.... althought I really don't want to do that. Another possibility is to park the tow rig and trailer at the Loon trailhead and either go halfway and come back out (don't really want to do that either) or go all the way through and drive back around to Loon (that would REALLY suck!!!)

Can one of you guys give me some directions to the Tahoe trailhead in case I end up parking my shit there?

From Tahoe City Take Highway 89 South, about 10-20 minutes. (it's a 2 lane road).

You'll see big green signs that say Rubicon Trail, right turn.

Sugar Pine Point State Park is a very close campground I believe.
I don't think they have showers.

Meeks Bay has private/State campgrounds that are pretty nice (beach access too).
The private one has extra parking... Not 100% sure but I think they will let you keep your rig/trailer there (it's a fenced in parking area/campground).
However, they are about another 5-10 miles south of the trailhead (closer to 50 to Loon). Search Meeks Bay +camping on google.

Thanks Mike. If I understand everything I've read, when driving to Loon from Tahoe, I should go past the Ice House Rd exit and re-fuel. Then head back east to Ice House Rd and on into Loon. Is that what you guys would recommend?

coming from tahoe to icehouse there is a gas station before ice house rd so you dont have to back track. a few weeks ago when i went to tahoe gas was the same price there as it was in pollock pines.

Any clues on which gas station (where it's at) is the last stop before Ice House Rd. Since I won't know when I'm coming up Ice House until I see it, I just might drive past the last stop and have to backtrack anyhow. Thanks.

Rock Tractor... you said you're going to be parking at the Tahoe trailhead Thursday night and heading around to Loon. What time do you think you're going to make it to the Tahoe staging area?

Would it be Kyburz, White Hall, or Riverton?

I never buy gas there, but it should be Kyburz. I guess to be safe buy gas at each place There is not much after you leave tahoe. FYI ice house road is right before you cross the river, so if you find your self climbing a grade you went to far Sugar Pine ponit is about 2 mi south of the trail head. The tail head in Tahoe is marked, but its in the back of a residential neighborhood. So look for signs. I will have to look for some pic's for ya.

If you think you will be short on gas, you can fill up at Crystal Basin for $3.95 gal The store is located near Union Valley res. Yes I called to get todays price.

It looks like everybody that was gonna go all the way through are dropin like flies. If ya want we can park our rigs at loon. Goto Buck friday, run down to Rubicon springs on saturday and back to Buck, then head out to loon on sunday.
It would still make your trip worth while(alot more wheelin then headin out to Tahoe) and your rig would be parked in a normal spot.

Great idea. TORC, drive your ass to Loon. Skip that Tahoe crap. We'll all get in a tone of wheelin time. Driving on pavement sucks anyway. If you get in early, there are nice maintained camp sites at Loon right above the spillway.

I talked with CRJOHNSO "the Cheese" today, he was talking about going all the way through. The Cheese is street legal so it's not such a big deal.

Reuben,
PM. Tracy and I both have to work. We'll leave town at 4 or 5.

Mike,
What's the official time you want people meeting up with you to head in?

My ass is still in KC. I just got through rounding up all my tools and parts and shit I'm going to take, got that shit loaded up and got the Scout loaded on the trailer. I haven't packed a single "personal" item thing yet. I got all my laundry done while doing other shit today... all I have to do in pack some clothes and toiletries and head out. I haven't even had a time to think about food on the 'con or anything, but since a cooler would only be good for about 1 day, I figured I'd just pick up some can of whatever and other stuff like that doesn't need to be kept cold.

So you guys are telling me I should just head to Loon and go part way in and back out. I might end up doing that, but since it such a haul for me and I don't know when I'll make it back out that way to do it again, I kind of wanted to see the whole trail. I plan on leaving sometime tomorrow (hopefully by noon) and will check in from time to time on the way. I'm set up with the laptop to log in through Flying J's WiFi system.

My buddy asked me if he wanted me to go unbolt the kitchen sink and put in the Scout also, but I'm just sure I've forgotten something.

Gonna go take a shower now, pack in the morning, finish loading up and head out. I'll find out what the final verdict is (Loon or Tahoe) on the trip out there.

I'm so sick of this whole fuckin' trip already..... who's bright idea was this anyhow?
