not a bad idea, but why would you need to get a HD spicer shaft? Just for the strength I understand... but if he has his hands on a stock TJ shaft couldn't you just press a collar on it?

The only modification on my YJ I regret, is spending money on the D30. I could have bought a beater 3/4t or 1t pickup for what I have in the D30, taken the axels and parted out the rest, and be ahead of the game. I hate learning the hard way.

no one has really answered his question yet though...
if you have a tj d-30, why put a 44 in the front?? for the bigger ring gear? for the hubs?
if your in school, i say throw a lockright in the 30 and get some spare shafts. thats will last for years and years of wheeling. then... when you are ready for it, .....
and you have the cash saved up
after a long long time,
....

throw a d-60 in the front...

elusiv~

That's kinda the idea I was going for. I already have ARB and 4.56 in the front, which is why I'm reluctant to ditch the thing. I figure that the ARB is reasonably tough, and with 297's, it's really not worth it to go up to a 44. The increment is too small for the cash and PITA factor.

By the way, whoever asked, you don't have to use a Spicer heavy duty shaft (whatever the difference is...), any one-piece D30 shaft will do.

if you want larger u joints look for TJ shafts all of them have the 297x joint in them. as for xj shafts im pretty sure only the newer ones have 297x joints. you BEST bet would be to find a 95.5 YJ that still has the vacum disconnect and also has the 297x joints in it.....try jwjeep.com

...or elusiv you can put 30 outers on 44 tubes: you gain a larger R&P, 30 spline shafts, heavier duty tubes, and don't spend much at all. Best of both worlds.
