Is it ok to mount aluminum fuel tank in trunk on daily driver?

I built a fuel cell out of 1/4" aluminum sheet with baffle and sump. I was planning on mounting it in the trunk with about 6" sticking out above trunk floor and 6 1/2" below trunk floor. Was planning on putting a removable false floor over the tank and vent the tank to the outside of the cab. Unfortunately the tank is above the original gas cap level. So this is a two fold question. First is the safety issue and second is ideas on relocating the fill tube and cap. FYI the reason I did this is I stretched the rear end 6" and it was directly under my old fuel tank. Which was leaking and carbureted and I had the aluminum for free and I put a 5.3 in and am probably going to put an internal pump in the tank when my external pump craps out. Thanks
