To 40s or not to 40s?

Should I stay at 37s? Or move to 40s?

I have a line on some cheap(ish) used 40" MT/R kevlars. I'll be using them for crawling in the granite, and if all goes well I'd like to be able to take it to the mall / grocery store every now and then. I figure the highway is pretty much out.

I just finished an axle swap / 4" stretch in the rear and 99% won't be stretching any more in the near future. Eventually for sure, but definitely not this summer. I'm running a healthy LS1 with lots of mods, SM465, mostly stock D300, HP60 w/ ram assist, 14 bolt, 5.13s, and currently at 89" wheel base. I would definitely like to lower the Jeep somehow or another, maybe shorter shackles or remove a short leaf. And of course the rear fenders need trimmed. That'll be next.

Here's a picture for reference, plus I'm an attention whore

If you dont want to stretch I would trim out the fenders to get it lower and stay with the tires you have

I agree. I am at 100". I still think it needs more stretch when I go from 37s to 40s

Yeah, way too short. Hell, 35s and lowering it an inch or two would be a good choice at that WB.

nonsense.

It is definitely too tall. but that's relatively easy to fix.

go with 40"s and see how you like it. I really don't think it will handle any different.

I think it will be great.

37"s on tons is super gay.

Dude, just grab the 40" irok's off my buggy fifteen feet away and drive it around the block. Just be sure to put them back on my buggy when you flop it pulling into jeff's driveway

mines stretched a lot longer than yours and 39.5's will still be quite a challenge.

that thing is WAYYYY to tall as it is. I would cut the rear tub and either highline front fenders or Campbell hood the front and lower it about 10"

Lol. 40's would be a great idea. Add a full size spare, make a great wheelie machine.

Grewe, I don't think 40s are gonna fit your rig right now with those rear wheel well openings. Your current tires barely fit. I'll be running 40s on my YJ when the tons go under it, but I'm also stretching the body and frame by 18"s so I'm gonna have a good bit more wheelbase too.
