New project CJ5, new here

New member here. Been around Jeeps since my Dad got a '42 GPW in 1969. In '72 he got a 70 CJ5. I learned to drive in those two Jeeps. Later, he sold the CJ5; I bought it back and had it for a few years. Sold it 15 years ago.

So now I have a new project. Found a 73 CJ5 with motor/tranny/TC removed. Motor(304) and tranny(3spd) are gone, but the transfer case(Dana 20) is in a box. Has 33's, mild lift, 4.27 gears.

Plan is to get it going again and running trails with my son(father/son project).

It came with a supposedly rebuilt 304 on a stand, a 350 Chevy on a stand that need rebuild, and a supposedly rebuilt SM465.

Should be fun

Sounds like a great project. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

A v8 with a sm465 and Dana 20 will be pretty cool.

I am going with a 5.3/sm465/dana20.

Any idea which engine you are going to use?

I'm not sure on the motor. In addition to this project, am also playing with a 68 Javelin with a mild build 360; that AMC motor runs really good, so expect amild 304 would too

The 350 is so easy to get adapter for though...

Sounds like PO already had the right idea and was moving in that direction. Toss the no power 304 and install the 350 with SM465 and Dana 20 t-case.

That's a good looking setup too. I might send you a pm about your hydroboost setup.

This is why I still consider the 304... Or a 360.

The '68 Javelin I have has a 360. Cammed, carb and intake, balanced motor runs really strong, and basic parts weren't any more expensive compared with a Chevy 350.
