Another tug build

I hesitate to even start this build thread, cause its going to be slow. I expect a shit-ton of flack for it. I had a daughter a couple months before picking this guy up. Needless to say, I only work a few hours at a time on it...sporadically.

I'm building this mainly as a road jeep, not a trail only rig, so keep that in mind when judging. Dustyglyde is my inspiration.

Specs (to be):
1985 CJ10a
SD33
TF727
NP198 converted to 4wd
Dana 44 F
9 inch R (ratios tbd)
33-35 inch tires

Going to try to keep it as low as possible, and stuff in as big of tires as I can. That means trying to keep it sprung under. We'll see how it goes.

First step was the teardown and assessment. The tranmission seems to be slipping a little, so Ill have to look into that. Interesting way to secure the locknut on the dana 70...

They were mostly phased out of the inventory when I got in the AF in 2001. We had 2 of them at Tech School.

The recycle center at Mtn Home had one, was something they picked up from Dr. Mo I think. Was mostly old ex Ammo guys there too.

Still had a few at Travis when I cross trained out of Vehicle Maintenance in 99. I think that was the last time I saw any.

How fast time goes by hit me not long ago.

Gov Liquidations had several Bobtails on there and they were the ones I ran back at Line D... and they were just about new then!

I kept going back and forth - I saw a few flat beds that I loved, but finally decided on a bed using a YJ tub. I want to keep it looking like a truck.

I think these are pretty cool. Pricey I'm sure, but I bet it would work well, after seeing another member on here use one for his jeep truck build.

Yeah those are awesome - I seriously considered getting one. I pretty much decided to go with building one from a tub though - I like the idea of steel better than fiberglass. So unless my fabrication goes horribly wrong, Im going to try to use the a tub.

Got the rear axle out. Anybody want to buy a 75 inch wide dana 70? Feels like this thing weighs more than a 14b. Jez..

Jez these springs are FLAT. They have a pretty decent offset, so I was going to take a half dozen leafs out of the pack, flip them around and see how it works. Im thinking of keeping the 3 top springs.
