I've never run a 249...

But I have put a 242 behind the NSG370 (6speed) in a Jeep. Plug & play except for a tiny bit of grinder massaging on the shift cable bracket.

My advice... don't. The 249 is a hunk of garbage with the viscous coupler. Theres a reason most people with awd zj grand cherokees swap in a 242 or 231. If you want the ability to select awd, go with a 242 t case. It's got 2wd, 4 hi, 4 low and full time awd.

So 242 is the best choice?

I’m also considering a used Atlas if anyone has one...

Yes, if you're set on an awd option, the 242 is actually full time 4wd, so pretty much the same thing

Iíve got a 242 but gotta go wth an ax5 instead of the 15. Too much of a pain to mate an ax15 to a 2.5 so Iím gonna have to somehow mate the 242 to the ax5.

Change the spud in the 242 or is there an adapter for it?

Tia

Input shaft.

And make sure its the manual trans input and not the at input. They are different lengths.

Also, is there a heavier fly-wheel suggestion to consider while Iíve got the tranny separated from the 2.5?

I remember the 4 cylinder guys saying the heavier flywheel gives it a ďfeels likeĒ lower torque.

TIA
